Unpaid wages & unlawfull deduction of wages can be differant things !

IIRC, you need to raise a formal grievance under your employers grievance proceedure. If this doesn’t get you what you think you are owed then you can either (1) sue them in the small claims court, or (2) take them to an employment tribunal.

The way I interpret your original post, you cannot fail to recover your 6hrs of pay.

Google “unlawfull deduction of wages” & there’s lots of respected websites to give information.

You sound to soft for transport :unamused: to me !! That’s your opinion like many others I have proved wrong, so thanks for adding fuel to my fire

Transport is not an easy industry ! FACT. I gathered that when I was a child, I like a challenge but people will think what they want to think. This point in time I’m beyond caring
The people that run trucks are not easy people to deal with FACT. I’ve dealt with difficult people in different environments not just transport so not something that faces me
If you do any amount of hours work for them then you are entitled to get paid for the hours that you have worked. FACT. I gathered this, I was just clarifying my answer so I don’t land in any [zb] that I don’t really want or need to be in
So, go into the bosses office and sit there and wait until you get paid for the hours that you worked. Go in on your day off if you have to to make a point. !!
Dont come on TN and cry about it, no one on here can help you. I asked for advice, as I’ve seen similar things on the forum and needed the information to be exact, yes to many just a bunch of truck drivers but I tend to listen to truck drivers (Who talk some sense which the number of those is declining by the hour) dont ask me why I just do30 Quid is 30 Quid. It is but to me money isn’t everything, doesn’t mean I won’t be saying something about it
I used to sit for hours when I was due money and I used to get it eventually. It got to the point that the boss would storm out and go for a drive thinking that I would be gone when he got back. But Oh no, I was still there…
There are some blokes on here that know which boss I’m talking about. When it got really nasty after being turned round four or five times at Zeebrugge or Boulogne with more trailers, I had to resort to the hessian sack with a pickaxe handle in it. Crash that on the desk and you will soon get paid. You may not be employed there afterwards but atleast you let them know that you aint a mug… I tried to prove that by telling the warehouse manager where to shove his snide remarks to himself in nicer words than I’d usually say them, but like any older adult I was a stupid little [zb] who threw his teddies out the pram yet if I was 20 years older it probably would have been ‘good on you’ again not really caring, I stood my ground and I’ve not had bother from him sinceSurely though, to be in a transport office you need to understand the job from the road up !! Indeed that’s true, but in a sense I’m doing what would make my dad happy and getting in the office before getting behind the wheel of a truck, I suppose that’s a good way of thinking of it I supposeBest place to start is in the yard, helping the drivers and the loaders etc do some shunting and generally mucking in, that way you will definately gain respect and knowledge. Tell me a company who will hire me to do this I’ll put my name down, until then it’s the only option I have. And don’t think I’ve knocked on every door because I have and not one will bat an eye lid. But you earn respect to gain it, I’d treat a driver like I would anyone else, if i’m spoke to in a not so nice manner I would react like i would anyone else. Makes no difference to menot sitting in some poncy office listening to people that dont have a clue !! Maybe I’m too old.
Dont forget though, you need experience and the only way to get it is to get work, but dont let them take the ■■■■ out of you. A fair days work = a fair days pay. With that sort of office talk crap, it’s plain to see you are cut out for office employment, not real graft. You don’t just need to man up, you need to grow up too.

Or maybe I just don’t have a negative attitude like half of the people in this world because I rather see a positive than a negative. And you’re telling me to grow up, I’m sure there are people twice my age who need to do the same thing so I don’t think I’m in any hurry thank you very much.

But what would you know about me? ■■■■ all :unamused:

If you seeing a positive rather than a negative were true, you wouldn’t leave work because you didn’t feel well. What do you think you’d do if you were driving a truck a few hundred miles from home and you didn’t feel like carrying on ? How long do you think you’d last if you’re out there with thousands of pounds worth of lorry and thousands of pounds worth of goods that someone’s waiting for, and you decided you couldn’t carry on because you felt sick, or thought you might ■■■■ yourself ? If that load was refused because of bad timing due to you not feeling up to it, you wouldn’t last long at all.

Most of us have felt pretty rough at times, but just get on with it.

When I was driving for a living, the only people in an office that I had any respect for were those ex drivers. Even if they were pricks, they were at least pricks that had experience on the road. You can do as much training etc as you want, and push as many of those little wheels around a map as you like, but don’t think that means you know what you’re doing because of it.

Fair enough, go for the money you’ve worked for, but remember, it’s a tough old world out there, and it’s getting tougher.

Your comment about other people twice your age not growing up is neither here nor there, it’s you we’re talking about !

You’re wrong about me knowing ■■■■ all about you. I’ve read your posts and know enough to know that you do in fact, need to man up and grow up.

You won’t get treated with kid gloves.

I know I’ve been fairly blunt, but it really seems as though you need to be told straight.

Anymore rolling eyes ?

I think trucking is a wise choice for lazy bar stewards like you and me. Despite what others might tell you, it’s a piece of ■■■■. You will spend most of your working day sat in a comfy chair listening to music. The ones that say it’s hard work have forgotten what a real days work is.

That’s certainly why I do it. You’d be hard pushed to find an easier job for decent money than this one, if it required too much in the way of effort I wouldn’t have done it for the last 27 years.

Chas:
I’d be prepared kill a man if he stole £30 off me, would you?

Errrrrr, no.

Are you writing this from a place of incarceration?

I am not gonna go through all these posts, so if I am just repeating someone please accept my applogy.
British employment laws as I rememeber them state that if any employee turns in for work but goes home or to the doctors sick he or she must be paid the full days pay. I found this out working for Concord roadshows who in every other way would try and save money on pay etc. I had reported for work at 08.00 am as usual and within an hour fell sick, the manager told me to go home and I told him I could carry on because it wasn’t that bad and I couldn’t afford to loose a day’s pay, he told me that I wouldn’t because it was British law that if any employee reports for duty then falls ill and has to go home must be paid for the entire shift. Working for Tesco they also paid in the same circumstances but I had thought that was just Tesco policy.
Get advice from citizens advice, it’s free and will even appoint a lawyer with an hours free advice.

Its probably the best career move I ever made, far better than the manual work I used to do inc: Welding steel, working down a coal mine, handballing & picking 3000+ cases of bacon and pre-packed cooked meat, a shift in a freezer warehouse

IMO JTF needs to MTFU & grow some and face the challanges that life throws at him, then hell realise that its normal to not have enough time in the day to do stuff like study. He should try doing a 60hr + week, inc a couple of 15hrs with 9hr reductions in between, then trying to fit in a family life, raise kids, screw the wife, fix the car/house etc in the gaps and the 1-2 days you have off. Then maybe like many others be crazy enough to try, home study for the opperator CPC.
but isn`t that just normal for most people?

jonnytruckfest:
And I’ll be booking the Wednesday off as a holiday so they have no excuse but to pay me :smiling_imp:

I wouldn’t bank on it personally. If you phoned in sick for the wednesday, then its technically against the law for them to put it down as a holiday. Its a breach of the working time directive. Holidays are defined as a pleasurable period where you are free to dispose of your time away from work. If you’re sick, it doesn’t count.

I wasn’t going to bother replying anymore to this thread but there is a difference to needing to grow up about some things and messing about in a non grown up way. I have been told before I’m immature. I’m not Immature, I’m just not boring. Immature is a word used by boring people to describe non boring people However on an occasion where I need to be grown up I am, this will usually be with important work stuff.
And not beng a pushover isn’t about giving the boss some stick when he tells you to hurry up or not to rush things.

if the company is like mine they will get the wgaes wrong every month i would quietly mention it to your boss/manager and check next wage slip my wage slip has been wrong bout 9-10 times in past year either been over paid or underpaid if they dont cough up and u dont get another job just do the bare minimum that is expected of you when last months wages for me was wrong i refused to do overtime or put my self for the company till it was rectified

At least you knew where you stood with them bosses and had to be able to give as good as you got. But at the same time you knew anything they told you to do is something they could and had done themselves.
Its like when you read about the poor planing at stobarts on here and when i saw one of the tv shows they had an interview with a planner who’s previous job was working in KFC.

I had food poisoning hit me on the way back to Croydon from TNT Atherstone just before I left the A5 onto the M1. I had the squirts in the layby and then threw up. Feeling slightly better I set off for the M1, within 2 miles I had projectile vomiting before I could get the window down, while getting on the shoulder and stopping :open_mouth: :frowning: . It was everywhere. I cleaned what I could and carried on back to Croydon. That was the most miserable 2 hours of my life. My manager was very impressed that I made the effort for the firm, so much so they payed the valeters and didn’t stop my wages. I’ve not eaten banana or tuna since :unamused: . It’s a tough industry mate, you need to understand that, these guys aren’t being snide or nasty, they are giving you good advice, use it and take it on board. This whole generation seem soft to me :imp: .

Without the fear of sounding too drunk,

I feel for you having the food poisoning, it isn’t the nicest of things to deal with and on top of that having my drink spiked on the Friday of the same week made things a million times worse Although that was self inflicted it still didn’t help non the less. Funnily enough like you, I’ve not ate anything containing cheese since and the smell of cheese makes me feel sick :open_mouth:

I agree with most when I should have just stuck it out and carried on but at the time I wasn’t risking being sick when considering I’ve not been in the job long I don’t want to be told to leave quicker than I came in (Regardless of what people think about some of my actions, it was the right action for me at the time in my opinion) And like i said the past year or so I have gotten soft although that might have a little something to do with my ex getting inside my head and giving it a royal seeing too, to the point of having counselling because of it and it’s no over reaction and It wasn’t just my ex who messed with my mind, her friends and family included :imp: :imp: Suppose that’s my fault for putting up with it for so long (18 months to be exact :imp: )

Thankfully I’m over it now (or just about) and I’m not so much of a mess as I was. It’s no excuse but its a contributing factor. The advice that I have been given I always take on board and use what of it I can. I agree I need to man up a bit more and grow up some, but it’ll be done in my time slowly but surely. But for the time being, i’m going to enjoy the rest of my new year celebrations and take some time out. I’ll be back in a month or so with some pictures and what not, also it gives me a chance to get my head around things.

Cheers for the advice anyhoo also I hope you’ve had a happy new year celebration and hope its a good one.

Happy new year

Cheers
