Unloading

Question.
Why do fork truck drivers unload 1 pallet from 1 side, then 1 pallet from the other side, then 1 pallet from the original side ‘Yawn’ etc, etc.
if they unloaded 1 side completely then I could get on with my life & close it up whilst he is unloading the other side.
Moan Over.

1 hour to unload 26 pallets !!! They got loaded in about 15 minutes.

At least I’m in a nice warm cab & the Forky’s on a Cold,Open & Wet forklift.

probably lazy and stringing it out.
Or waiting for shift change.

Because the trailer will fall over if it is unloaded from one side!

Seriously bugs my ■■■■ too. The Fanny at scats, meikledever station tipped me like this the other week. I wanted to tell him to do one side at a time but thought better of it as they are all super ■■■■ in there anyway.

It’s not that I’m in a hurry, I couldn’t care less if it takes 5 minutes or 5 hours, but it’s like watching Paint Dry & if I wanted to do that as a career I would go to a Special Paint Drying Company & watch the Bloody Stuff drying really slowly. Yawn !

All done, all curtains closed & secure ! Now I’m going to have a 45. Ha Ha !

Depending on how heavy the pallets are taking them off one at a time from each side keeps the trailer reasonably level thus making it easier for said Forkie to slide his forks in.

That’s for heavy stuff, but I only had about 4 tons total on board/ computer & electrical scrap/recycling.
I think the people who work here have to be guided in everything they do, they seem to be like little children & are being watched by Big Brother Camera’s everywhere, they probably have assembly every morning to worship the Head Mistress !

Undo your curtain on the ‘other’ side, but don’t pull it back til he’s finished the other side.

What I usually did when tipping a full load would be slide the curtain about 3 pallets spaces forwards from the back on both sides so they’d take the last 6 pallets on the trailer, then I’ll pull the curtains to the back on both sides, remove the supports and then go back to my toasty cab and let them get on with it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Speaking as both a driver and a fork lift driver, you have to remember that while you are on their site, they tip by their rules.
If the fork driver is told to tip alternate sides through training or procedure, he will.

If he decided to tip one side, then the other (or if the driver requests it), and their boss sees them, they could face a disciplinary action.

That being said, at most places I have driven forks for, we are instructed to ask the driver how they want loading, or ask if they want pallets off in a certain order. If no instruction given, then use initiative.

On my part, I will wait till one side is drawn, then pull from that side while other side is being opened. When both sides are open, I will alternate until the last 6 lifts. then I will clear one side to allow the driver to buckle up while I clear the other side.

No problems with Rules & regs, this is the forth time I’ve been here this week & the other day they unloaded it in about 20 minutes. You hit the nail on the head ‘Initiative’ it was threatening to rain, so I would have got the offside off first as the near side was sheltered almost under a canopy, then the Forky wouldn’t have got wet.

whichever way they want to tip is up to them, Your best bet is to stay in your cab, safely out of the way, let them get on with it at their pace…

jus be thankful he don’t apply his handbrake every time

The one I’ve got at the moment - Jesus - I’ve seen glaciers move faster. Always on a bloody Friday. So far 7 pallets of bricks has taken 20 mins. Only 22 to go!!

I’m home now, so I’ll have a beer for you.
