Ultimate dick of a driver

I agree, though personally i don’t think RobRoy needed to apologise for saying a combination of words that wasn’t meant in any way derogatory or demeaning in the context used to another group of people, and not usually represented here.

It’s PC ■■■■■■■■ like this that has allowed our country to be flooded with immigrants, and for the great failed multicultural experiment that hasn’t in the least affected those who ushered them in by the million, others with various axes to grind waiting in the wings to wag the waycist/xenophobe/little englander finger at anyone who dare utter a word out of place.

So what, RobRoy doesn’t read from the current hymnsheet of the day, neither do i, neither do the vast majority of us here luckily, this isn’t the liberal democrats yoghurt knitting forum, this is a forum for hairy arsed (and hopefully not hairy arsed lady) lorry drivers and their associated industry’s.

If someone has personal experiences and tragedies in their lives and they get offended at something said innocently, then IMO it’s not an apologising affair unless the poster meant the item in a nasty or demeaning way to someone in no position to defend themselves, fortunately i seldom see any such thing happen here, in the huge majority of cases any robust commenting is soon responded to with equal derision or a simple question asking if the poster making comment has the right target.

We all have our own personal skeletons tragedies and circumstances that can reduce us to a blithering wreck when the right combination of events come together to hammer that spike straight through our hearts again, i speak from experience here which i won’t bore you with, but we must not allow our personal tragedies to stifle free speech, for that road leads nowhere good.

I don’t know about age robroy, I’m 21 meself lol, but there would have to be someone in the line of lorries young to indulge in a bout of fisticuffs.

I think that technology and PC nonsense is responsible for this kind of thing. People seemed to behave themselves a bit more when there was the risk of getting a right hander if they got out of hand. Kind of like the cold war stalemate kept the superpowers from kicking off, just the threat of retaliation kept them behaving themselves.

It goes all the way down to the ridiculous crap that is spoken in waiting rooms, before when someone started talking ■■■■■■■■ somebody would say “■■■■ off, that’s a load of ■■■■■■■■” but now they keep quiet and get on their phone and post it on trucknet.

And there was me at 3am this morning having a break in a layby surrounded by six sleeping drivers. Coldest night of the year and the bloody fridge decides to start up. Nearly fell out of cab in rush to shut it off so I didn’t wake anyone.

Did it cut in to “warm it up a bit”?

Setting fridge to +3 or +4 instead of +2 seems to do this once the temperature hits zero or below…

Cheers for the comments lads but I didn’t apologise to the guy for any credit.
I just had this vision of a Dad sat with a young lad in that situation, with all the difficulties that it will bring, and some tactless numb trucker jumps in with his size 11s and insults his lad, offending him and his Dad, and that is all.
He hasn’t answered my post so I can only assume he is either still ■■■■■■ with me, or he hasn’t been back on here since and hasn’t seen my attempt to put things right from my end.

Was set to +3 but was only starting up once an hour, just my luck it started up in layby, no sign of life in other trucks so think I got away with that one.

Here’s another thing that boils my ■■■■, fridges, we all want fresh food and medicines etc, but get bent out of shape at the sight and sound of a running fridge.

Fair play to you driver for trying to be considerate, but it shouldn’t be such a problem, not if we go back to basics and start throwing fists at belligerent people to shut them up.

It’s not like fridge drivers take the job so that they can wake up or disturb the peace of other drivers, they’re just doing a job.

Yet it’s viewed by some as a criminal act. The world has gone mad…

Too many people make a noise these days because they feel they should be offended rather than ask themselves, are they really, honestly offended :unamused: ? Doubt it in most cases. My money is on what they call the newspaper syndrome. Where after a tragedy, people almost, in a sick hidden collective enjoyment show out pourings of dis engenuous grief despite not honestly feeling grief. People love a good gossip and drama. It’s this liberal, entitlement to show ones “offence” that’s landed this most tolerant of nations on its backside security wise.

Problem is working nights with a fridge, it’s very difficult finding a decent layby to have a break as they’re mostly occupied by sleeping truck drivers.

Didn’t say him beeping the horn was either right or wrong. Even when I was in the uk companies I worked for paid for MSA parking all bar one of them. Only place I paid over here is the TA @ Ontario CA and that was only $20 which I got back.

The stand alone truck stops go out of business and close down because people don’t go in and spend money. Drivers own worse enemy.

Yes it is, so anyone parking in a lay by should expect to hear the odd fridge or trailer change over during the night and not get excited or “offended” by another driver going about his business.

The same applies to drivers getting the hump with boy racers spinning about with the tunes pumping, unless they’re in a recognised lorry park they have no grounds for complaint.

Seems to me that far too many people are only happy when they’re complaining about something. In our world that seems to be drivers blinging up their lorry, frilly curtains, spotlight use, blah blah blah, when the things we should be complaining about hardly ever get a mention.

The French are complaining about wages today, not by ■■■■■■■ and whining on letrucknet, but by standing up for their rights, blinged up camions with frilly curtains and fridges who park in a lay by at night will be stood shoulder to shoulder with their brother drivers in order to reach their shared goal.

And we call them surrender monkeys…

It’s the same as people who buy a house next to a pub then try and get it shut down as it’s to noisy.

We’d all be in the same boat if every truck stop and rest area that is currently free (99% of them) charged $30 a night. I bet most of the companies here wouldn’t pay it, a one off they might but your old employer with the red trucks would never pay $30 per night for the several hundred trucks they have. Just look at all the Americans you see now in congested areas or areas with sparse parking who abandon the truck at night on slip roads because they’re on an elog and either don’t plan or get caught out by circumstances unknown. My last company in the UK didn’t pay for parking and it was an absolute nightmare and I fully understand where Rob is coming from with this.
People such as Rob who are parking on industrial estates are not the problem, they’re merely a symptom of the actual problem. The parking in the UK is a complete disgrace and that’s largely because there simply isn’t any parking and they’re making do as best they can. We’re spoilt rotten over here in most areas when it comes to parking and that’s certainly one part of being here that I’m extremely happy about.

Well done mate I hope the guy accepts your apology as you were man enough to put your hands up and not continue to try and justify it

Farmers could turn their fields in to space for truck parking, but the red tape and Nimbies would put a stop to that.
Park and ride parking is shut at night, all that space vacant where trucks could park in at night.
There are dozens of old Second World War airfields that could be used, the tarmac is already there.
Large arable farms have large yards, they would get free security there with drivers on the farm, I would pay the farmer, he gets an income.
Most farmhouses are far away from the farm, so not to disturb the peace.

I don’t know why I’m doing this, but you don’t see too many farms in the big cities that require all the freight we carry Toby!

Drivers are their own worst enemy …I pulled into the new services at Leeming Bar for a 45 the other day, only to see part of the fence pushed over in the trailer change area.
I could be wrong but it looks like someone has reversed into the fence

What then, grow crops on the field during the day and park trucks on it at night… :open_mouth:

The car parking surfaces are not likely to have been built to withstand the weight of trucks. Add that to the inevitable complaints the next morning regarding rubbish, chewed-up bits of grass and flowerbeds, bottles of ‘truckers’ tizer’ left lying about and worse, and it’s not going to happen.

so much you could coment / moan at on this single thread, 1st off i agree rob has been big enough to apologies which is becoming a rare thing in itself nowadays.
they to me seem to reduce/restrict the parking on ind ests as not only is it an obstruction of sorts, its the mess which is often seen after a few trucks have been (pop bottles, rubbish bags etc.)
i would if not being paid up in advance stop as rob has and would expect that drivers would have enough respect not to blow their horn etc. (same as changeover guys who talk at full tilt in services).
why cant drivers help each other out now? i used to assist drivers with sheets etc and in turn someone would 99% help me? why would drivers rather mow each other down rather than assist each other (and dont give me trackers etc).

its not the good old days and rose tinted glasses to me its a society thing where people years ago were bought up to respect each other, there seems to be a general lack of respect in society now.

and as for thick truckers i know more with degree’s and higher education than in other manual labour sectors and fail to see why so many jump on peoples spelling, punctuation etc. ( i have a degree but not in English so my punctuation is awful!). ever thought that an op may be dyslexic or similar?

and the reason drivers dont give ■■■■■■■■■ a slap is down to youtube/facebook and some forums where constant things like this are posted.

as for parking when you look at the thread about the new londonderry services and a 7million spend no wonder it costs so much and rob wants to park on an ind est.

I meant turn the fields in to hard standing ground for truck parking.
Farmers get paid a lot of money not to use land from the EU grants, set aside scheme.
