No I was not driving a DAF as I prefer a quality truck!
I was somewhere else that night.
I am happy to admit to sounding my horn at idiots parking in such a way that it puts me and other vehicles at a risk.
I do not go round trying to annoy people for fun.
If I sounded my horn, it is to make the other driver aware of my disatisfaction in the dangerous way they have parked.
When I have had problems parking up at Whalton Summit I have chose to go over my hours rather than park in such a manner as mentioned.
I agree with you too. I don’t see why people want to police the roads. Too many wanna be coppers on the roads as it is, usually on bicycles.
Extended periods of honking ones horn late at night could result in police showing you their displeasure at misuse and abuse of ones horn. This has turned into something sounding a bit rude. Not sure how that happened?!
It’s illegal to sound your horn at 5 in the morning anyway. Or is that only for residential areas?

Don’t think this rule applies to complete knobs, or should I say nab’s.
No doubt he is now honking his horn in displeasure.

I think it’s between the hours of 10pm and 7am you can’t sound your horn in some areas. Could be wrong though
Don’t moan then if ya woken up parked on an industrial estate if ya to tight to pay for an MSA. Times change that means change with em.
From what i know of walton summit industrial estate ,it lacks proper parking, the layby on the A6 is only short period and says no overnight parking, then the council who are anti truck, thought it ok to make layby type bus stops for buses , and paint lots of double yellow lines but no parking areas for trucks, and this was a busy industrial area in the past ,I try to aviod parking on that estate, as there isn’t nothing there no facilities for drivers not even a burger van (well i ain’t see it if there is) there are a few places to park in bamber bridge, if your going to be moving early like 6-7am then quite a few places to park if you look ,many visable off the A6 up by sainsbury’s

I’m sorely tempted to agree with you. But then that would mean we’re both wrong wouldn’t it?

Ok, sorry mate, I’ll give him a wave next time, cos you say I shouldn’t moan, sorted.
Yeh times change you’re right, I mean a lot of drivers ‘know their place’ and just put up with parking in ■■■■■■ ■■■■ stinking rat infested lay bys, because …times change, or they pay up to £25 or whatever the extortionate rate is, 4 or 5 times a week on a msa because…times change. Call me old fashioned or whatever the ■■■■ you please but I have always had a rebellious streak where I neither conform to unfair pressure from knobs in authority, or bend over and readily take it up the arse when I think things ain’t right or fair. I ain’t blowing my own trumpet but if a few more drivers would do the same as they once used to (but…times change ) the conditions we have to put up with would maybe not be as crap as they are
But you crack on mate, don’t ‘moan’ pay your 20 quid with a smile, or go and park in a lay by with your mirrors pulled in, safe in the knowledge that…times change, and I’ll carry on as normal

Yeh that’s partly right mate, but I don’t regularly park there, instead I usually park in Bamber on the small estate and go for a pint and a meal, but I was on a 9 off and decided to park at WS instead. There are double yellows there correct, but they are intermittent and if I do park there I use the gaps in the lines or a side road.

- Why the OP posted it.
- Why people bother to reply to it.
Because some threads can be somewhat pointless, and others just degrade into slanging matches.
There are several threads recently that are either one or the other
1.Because I thought this was a transport/truck driver’s forum where anything related to the job could be put up for discussion and to hear other driver’s opinions on it.
2.See above.
I agree but that is down to individual opinion, you may think one thread is pointless, another guy may disagree. If it degrades to a slanging match, that’s one of the pitfalls of a public forum.
True, but again personal opinion.
In an attempt to balance out a ■■■■ driver I thought I’d relate my story of a “good” driver; coming along the M4 today I saw one of Maxi haulage coming down the slip to enter the carriageway. I moved over to lane 2 to let him out, he proceeded to wave his thanks (I obviously aknowledged this with a wave back) he then flashed me in and I in turn acknowledged his flash.
A bit of a non event you may think, and ten years ago I’d have agreed with you, but the fact remains that as I moved to lane 2 I fully expected no wave, him to speed up and hold me there, and finally no flash in. Btw he looked to be in his twenties, so certainly not old school.
I just thought that it was a sad indictment of todays transport operations that I was pleasantly surprised by professional and courteous behaviour from a fellow driver.
Maybe I’m just easily pleased!

I don’t agree with this and/or have no interest in the subject, so instead of just scrolling down and not reading it, I’m going to torment myself and read every word, then make a post moaning about the thread and wondering why people reply to it.
Oh the irony…
So, here we have a situation where a bunch of drivers have found a free spot to park for the night.
Something that is an extremely limited commodity in Britain, whether it’s because of lack of facilities, or lack of finances, or even through choice like robroy.
In doing so the drivers may cause a slight inconvenience to other drivers, as their parked vehicles take up a fair bit of the available road space.
Yet traffic can still move somewhat freely, albeit at a slightly reduced pace.
Then we have a lorry driver come along who feels put out by this and showing his displeasure by sounding his horn.
Then we have other drivers arguing the rights and wrongs on this forum.
WTF?
It is ridiculous that anybody would drive down the road sounding their horn, it is even more ridiculous that other drivers would agree that it is acceptable behaviour.
In this crazy PC world it is acceptable to behave in this extremely anti social manner, yet it is unacceptable and considered anti social to deal with this in the correct manner.
Which is to drag the horn blower from his cab and kick the ■■■■ out of him for being a complete ■■■■■
I love these slanging matches…very entertaining.

Good innit,im keeping out of it though ,guuuuuuuon robroy give it um pal
Got to say I love reading all this, especially the slanging matches. What I do like even better tho is when a man can apologise when he thinks he as done wrong. I take my hat off to you robroy. Topman. Keep the posts coming

Cheers Newmercman, good to see a like minded driver and a one that talks sense.
Kick the ■■■■ out of him? I’ve seen the day when I would have done just that and thought
nothing of it, where as today I just shake my head and think ‘what a ■■■■’ …maybe it’s an age thing eh?
Beeping ones horn you say?
A dastardly act especially at such an ungodly hour. Had I been present at such an event I would have summoned my butler from my VIP ■■■■■■ vehicle and requested he fetch the bullwhip.
