UK Truck drivers shafted by the TORIES!

Like I say you & the rest of the leave vote on here seem to be totally obsessed with money , as long as your earning god knows what your happy , if the country falls apart , people’s life’s are ruined you don’t seem to care , me I’ve not got that obsession with money , I’d do 5 days not 3 , b/h etc if I did , life to me now is about more than money ,

I don’t have an obsession with money. If I did, I wouldn’t spend half the year tossing around on a narrowboat when I could be earning, would I? But I make no apologies for being glad to see the end of 15+ years of wage stagnation in the haulage game, I’m surprised that any truck driver could get bent out of shape about it.

I would argue that someone who deliberately spends six months and a day each year “tax exempt” - is the very acme of “Obssessed with money” - just like all those Romanians who buggered off back to Bucharest the moment they found they had to pay full PAYE taxes from now on… :sunglasses:

Probably because the Conservative party is more aligned with the working class than Labour!
Labour is no longer the voice for the working class, they are just champagne socialists with a far left agenda. We the plebs are just expendable pawns in their fight to introduce far left ideology.

They played a very smart hand and a long game. Infiltrated the Universities in the 1960’s, those students with the far left ideolgy ringing in their heads went on to become teachers who had infected the schools in the 70’s and 80’s so those kids were fed anti Thatcher and far left garbage.

Today its everywhere, from the BBC to boardrooms of large corporations, like a cancer that has goten into the core of a body.

Very piquant observation sire.Marxism is indeed a cancer and it’s ‘inventor’, uncle Karl…was a fully-fledged Satanist.Fact. :open_mouth:

What we could do with from EITHER party, if they care to pick up the gauntlet - is an encouragement to work hard, rather than tax our overtime at a higher rate than our basic, tax workers higher than the workshy, and now charge higher national insurance contributions - which the wealthy and most needy citizens - will just side-step… Maybe THIS is the reason why there are a dearth of decent full time contracts PAYE in the end? “Employers don’t want to pay their own end of stamp”…?

Satanists and demons have leathery wings, but angels have feathered wings, therefore Marx was not “fledged”.

"Sir Keir continued: 'For a long time we have known there is a problem with HGV drivers, that has been there for years.

‘But we knew in particular that when we exited the EU there would be a need for a back up plan to deal with the situation and there is no plan from the Government on this, and here we are, 100,000 needed and the Government is talking about 5,000 visas.’

Asked directly if he would bring in 100,000 foreign drivers if he was prime minister, Sir Keir said: ‘We are going to have to do that. We have to issue enough visas to cover the number of drivers that we need.’

So there we have it. Vote Labour if you want to be on the minimum wage.

gov.uk/guidance/the-uks-poi … -in-the-uk
£26,500p.a. for basic week or the “going rate” if it is higher. About 14 quid an hour.

Yeah right. It doesn’t say that that has to be for 40 hrs or less. That is the going rate for many Mon-Fri jobs in haulage. The DWP is not going to query the hours, if a company says they are paying their prospective driver £27.000 per annum…

It is up to this Gov to decide on conditions of offering visas. If it is for a low paid job undercutting rates, then blaming Starmer will doubtless continue, with the same logic as blaming Michael Foot.
.
(Glad Foot’s gone, can you imagine having a PM with a badly fitting jacket and untidy hair?)

Who’s blaming Starmer for current problems? It is his solution to the current problem should he get into power that deserves criticism, although watching his party conference that seems highly unlikely, when people on here like Rjan say the working man will be better off under the current government then it’s safe to say the Tories will be in for a good while yet.

> Why would they leave their own country to work here until Christmas, the uncertainty still around covid travel rules ridiculously high rents why would anyone do it, would any of you go to Poland to work until Christmas no like ****.

Looks like any UK driver with EU relatives that can get him/her an EU passport is more likely to move to the EE/Mainland Europe for a driving job than an EU citizen coming to the UK.

The one blessing of the ending of Free Movement is that UK HGV drivers are now trapped in the UK and can’t move to the EU where major initiatives are in progress to improve wages & conditions and a Euro Billions EU wide program to build more parking and facilities.

If we had free movement we could lose even more drivers and EE/EU drivers are unlikely to take a wage & conditions cut to come to UK Brexit Plague Island

You Remoaners just won’t give it a rest, will you? The eu is like a religion to you. We’ve seen unprecedented pay rises this year, fifteen years of wage stagnation reversed in one short Summer and greater than I’ve known in over 35 years in the job but still you can’t stop ■■■■■■■■■■■■ into that blue and yellow flag.

I’m sorry to burst your bubble but the 3 flags I own are all Bristol rovers flags , one is blue ( I’m sure there a picture on here from years ago of it in my lorry at the time ) ,I’ve a black & yellow Bristol rovers one , and a Union Jack one from 40 yrs ago , I’ve no eu flag , I’ve no interest in the eu , I didn’t give them a 2 nd thought , but my life was fine , why change something your happy with , money is not my priority , I’m 60 , I’ve got everything I want ( other than my health
I do find you all hypocritical though , as you all voted to leave as you obviously weren’t happy , you criticised being in the eu , but now when we criticise this mess , we’re called moaners , double standards I’d say

All the rest of the leave vote seem obsessed with money?
Perhaps your issue then is foolish stereotyping?

You would?
Depends if his motivation for spending time on his boat is tax exemption or not.

Otherwise all you have is a potentially wrong assumption shaped to fit your opinion

In what way would I be “tax exempt”? I don’t pay income tax when I don’t have an income but that’s a bit like saying that someone who doesn’t have a TV is dodging the TV licence.

Funny title for a thread, when the only common sense is coming from the Tories.
Huw Merriman should be the head of the RHA, and any driver union.
Listening to him this morning on the Today programme, I have not heard anybody, least of all a driver, or a socialist for that matter, expound a more powerful and truthful invective against the haulage industry. All while being talked over by the leftie luvvie presenter.
There are people out there who, hopefully, when the economy settles, will reckon up with all the talking heads in the RHA, and those company bosses who have presided over the steady decline of the UK haulage industry. The same people who have presided over the decades long status quo of stagnating wages and ■■■■ poor facilities for professional drivers.
I know there are quite a few out there and on here who will struggle to live up to the ‘professional driver’ tag, but it applies to quite a few out there, and Labour offer nothing to us, but more of the same.
When the so called ‘party of the working man’, tells us importing more cheap labour is the answer to our problems, you have to wonder about the intelligence of the labour lemmings who support them.

To be fair all Brit politicians and parties are pro rail anti road transport and that’s the industry’s problem.
As for the workers I can remember trade unionists marching in support of Enoch Powell and it was Heath who sacked him for it… with the support of the Labour Party.

You`ve had your 2 mins of FAME drivers !!!

Here comes the cheap EE drivers again. Thanks to the Tories !!!

No wonder your f…

Indeed. Some here have short memories, very short in fact. Only a couple of weeks ago the Tories decided to hike National Insurance, but as usual with Tory policy, it’s the lowest earners that will feel this hike in N.I the most. Meanwhile Tory chums managed to secure lucrative PPE contracts last year during the ongoing pandemic. Boris is a proven liar and was never a committed Brexiteer. He saw Brexit as an opportunity to grab the reins of the Tory party and ultimately to become PM, a charlatan, scoundrel and a cheat! Him and his party don’t give a stuff about our industry and you are all deluded to think so. As for Labour they’re rudderless and unelectable under Starmer, a party obsessed by identity politics and riven with in-fighting.

Well.
This is awkward.

The hike in N.I.contributions to pay for health is what the public want, watch Question Time or listen to Any Questions every time the host asks the audience if they would be prepared to pay more tax to help the health service overwhelming they say yes, so a goverment doing what the people have asked for and then the people complaining how fickle the electorate are

Labour put N.I up by 1% when they were in power!

GORDON 50:
Labour put N.I up by 1% when they were in power!

They also never reversed the Tory income tax cuts for high earners.

Thatcher reduced the highest rate from 83% to 60% but only reduced the basic rate by 3%.
Then they cut the highest rate from 60% to 40% but only reduced the basic rate by another 5%.
All maintained by Labour.
