In the last year I’ve noticed one female and one black truck driver. Every single other truck driver I’ve seen has been a white man. When you walk down today’s streets it feels like we’re a dying breed, but there seems to be an invisible barrier between the general working population and an HGV steering wheel. I notice the same effect if you walk off the streets and enter a museum or art gallery or anything to do with our country’s history. There’s an invisible barrier or force field that only indigenous folk or the odd Asian seem to want to cross. What is it about trucking that puts the other races off? I live in the East Midlands where you rarely see a white woman with a white child so it’s not like I’m in one of those isolated little patches where we still predominate. I’m on the M1, M6, M42, M50 each day and see hundreds of truckers thru the week and the demographics of truck driving are clearly at odds with the world ‘out there’.

Yes sorry I should have put ‘where I’ not ‘where you’, but the point still stands. There is a form of apartheid in UK trucking it seems, albeit voluntary. It’s well known that certain professions tend to appeal to certain races and ethnicities at certain times. In modern Britain it’s been my observation that generally speaking non-whites don’t like to truck, and I’m curious to know if anyone else has noticed this or has any theories as to why. Or who can tell me that in different parts of the UK things are different.

it may also be the fact there’s not many coloured people in eastern Europe

+1, most ethnic minorities are too educated to drive trucks anyway. Like most industries in the UK ethnic minorities are discriminated on, not many hold top jobs. Look at po-lice forces, MPs, the transport sector (drivers, pilots, train operators etc), large Plc-they all discriminate, it’s a British thing.
when have you ever seen a non white driving a land rover/range rover? or driving a decent motorbike…and how come anytme you pass someone broken down on the motorway,there seems to be 4 non whites sitting in it…how bad is it that you cant call them what they are in here or anywhere else for that matter,in case someone starts gobbing off about being racist,when 99% over here of the indigenous population are definitely racist to some degree…im not racist,but…that’s the usual sentence…im quite happily as racist as it gets,though I don’t care when im abroad…my inlaws live in Sweden,and its infinitely more in your face there…similar to here 50 years ago for blatent anti foreigner…being white and from the uk over there means your mostly ok compared to the rest that’s flooded in…

That’s a great point. There’s one UK transport sector that is dominated by a non-white race. I wonder if that has anything to do with it being a cash business that can start on a small scale and be built up as a family of owner operators. We tend to not have that sort of support network and tend more to go solo.
It might arguably be fair to say that the Germanic/Nordic ethnic group is genetically predisposed to making good drivers and pilots etc more often.Just like the ethnic African group makes good athletes and musicians more often.While the road casualty figures for Asian and African countries seem to go along with that.Which leaves the question of the slavic group and which suggests that colour isn’t exactly everything.While the PC lot would probably say that such a view is ‘racist’.

I had a Chinese meal in rural Spain last week and couldn’t get my head around the fact that not only didn’t they speak English, they also didn’t do it in a broad Geordie/Scouse/Manc accent!
I’d love a chinese, I think they are quite hot

not racist,just normally observant…if you come out of Birmingham airport,or mancs airport,and look for a taxi,you have to look twice to realise your not in downtown Bangladesh,
