UK risks another HGV driver shortage

Franglais:
In 2021, (migration watch figures) 35,000 illegal immigrants. (For the numerically challenged that is under 100 per day.) But since Priti Pattel`s £120 million investment, that rate has increased.
The rags and Farage report the summer days with boats landing, they forget the winter months with many fewer.

Illegal immigrants are prohibited from working here. Asylum seekers are prohibited from working here.
Wage suppression is a result of home grown employers, not your “bogey man” foreigners.

How does any of that address the serial failures of UK Govs to build houses?
35,000 illegal (extra) immigrants? Where are the 200,000 Tory starter homes? The illegals could have half a dozen each!

Ah so those figures must be right then eh?.. because that is what the official line is and that is what they tell us, …ok, got it.
So what about the ones who succeed in getting through undetected what are those figures?..by their very nature who tf knows?

As for illegal immigrants prohibited from working here?
No ■■■■ Mr Holmes, but do you really think all the kebab shops, all the nail bars, all the dodgy car wash spots, not to mention all the cannabis farms and the rest of the businesses ran through the black economy give a flying ■■■■ about legality ?

I find myself once again Frangers (it’s been a while mind you  ) a la Covid, telling you to.

Get real! :bulb:

Well, just imagine…if we spent a few quid more on catching those illegally run businesses, on UK streets, with UK tax returns, we could catch the ones behind these illegal scams.
But since we vote for parties who cut back on police numbers, and civil servants, and talk about “over regulation” and “red-tape” I guess we will just have to trust businesses to self regulate, won`t we?
That always works out well.

Aye but those are symptoms you mention.
Let’s go for the ‘disease’ instead (oops sorry to offend the bleeding hearts with my chosen terminology ) and stop them coming over in the first place. :bulb:
They have already qualified for asylum in their FIRST port of call country, and that sure as hell ain’t the UK.

Show me a political party in our generation who haven’t implemented cuts to police numbers and frontline services. Are you (Franglais) saying that any of the political alternatives will reverse this trend?

I`m sure you can do your own research about which parties were in power.

The “disease” is cost cutting by our Govs.
There are those out there who will take advantage of any loophole, anywhere. And if there is no loophole will calculate the chances of getting caught.
Cutting enforcement is stupid, but since those getting tax cuts arent affected by these low lifes, why would the Gov do anything? Their backers live in gated estates. They dont need the police, nor the NHS.
GET REAL !

Truth is we don’t actually have that much building land available once you take out green belt, agriculture and national parks etc, so I don’t know where all these houses are supposed to be built.
As for the figure of 35000 migrants arriving here, what about the legal ones? getting into the hundreds of thousands, where will they all live? We’re building approx 30,000 to 40,000 new homes each year so falling well short, even if we could build 300,000 houses year on year, and schools and hospitals etc to match, it would only be a matter of time before something goes pop.

I’m getting strong vibes and not for the first time Frangers that you are a Labour man.
Nowt wrong with that by the way, I would be there myself if it was a proper Labour Party primarily FOR the working class (aka as their sole reason to be)

So with with ref to most of your political views on here, and your obviius hatred (even though you deny it) for BJ (the past pm variety not the oral variety btw  ) do you think that …
A.Corbyn and his gang of prominently clowns would have made a much better PM
B.That he would still be in power today.
Just wondering.

Why take out agricultural, green belt, and national parks?
We have a Gov talking of paying farmers to keep land fallow for the “national good”? Isnt it for the "national good" to house our kids? Green belt isnt unoccupied land. It is land with big, almost empty houses, owned by those who want to keep the rest of us in crowded cities. Green belt is great if you live in the sticks and don`t want neighbours spoiling your view. It is bad for anyone coming of age and wanting a home of their own.

Great, let’s concrete over our farmlands and national parks etc and keep building indefinitely to accommodate hundreds of thousands new arrivals.

Franglais:
We dont have enough houses because we havent been building enough. For years parties of all colours have acknowledged that we need to build more but they havent. . We arent “full to bursting” despite what drama queen`s like Farage and some papers try to tell us.
Germany has a similar density of population, Belgium higher, and The Netherlands about 40% higher. They actually build houses though. Most migrants stay in Europe. Many more refugees are in Germany than in the UK, although the whining, whinging, Tory press owners are still keeping billions from the UK treasury, but pointing the finger at the few thousand migrants getting off boats.

The Gov has a whole department looking for benefit fraud by the poor, but simply ignores the bigger furlough fraud by businesses.

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that public services such as our NHS and schools have been decimated as well as a substantial housing shortage in the last 20 years. What could have possibly happened in that time to cause such a situation? Oh wait, I’m not actually allowed to say that without automatically being accused of being a raging right wing racist who hates all them foreigner types! :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Carryfast:
But give those of us living in what remains of Surrey and Kent time to move out to the Welsh or Scottish borders first before starting on the new even greater London urban utopia.

First is a bit too close for comfort. I hear the Scottish Borders are quite lovely…….and with any luck you’ll be able to open a duty free shop on the border within a decade

It goes from me suggesting that some farmland and greenbelt be built on for homes for our kids, rather than held back to isolate the few already there, to concreting the whole of the UK?

B. Dunno. Neither do you.

Don`t bother answering. As pointless as your questions.

Juddian:
The problem with providing a free utopia for thousands of immigrants is that you only encourage more, just what exactly is the max population of the country to be, 100 million, what happens over next 50 years when another few dozen million decide they too want in, and the percentage of net contributors paying for it all reaches net loss?
When will those who think the magic money tree is still in full flower be satisfied.

There is no magic money tree. We all know that.
Even the new Brexit variety immune to the diseases of the EU, and guaranteed to bear fruit, is looking withered already, isn`t it?

Are you suggesting that we stop building houses for our next generations, to discourage immigration?
Nose/Face?
Seems to be that the current Gov are doing a lot along the same lines already: crash the economy and no-one will want to come here.

Nah not after an argument mate,.and sorry for responding btw…, but the very first syllable/word of your first answer ( :open_mouth: ) really explains a lot about you, and clarifies a lot of your previous posts…but not necessarily in a good way.

If it’s any consolation to you, given a choice I think Starmer would make a better PM than Corbyn…then again Barry Chuckle would make a better PM than Corbyn…
