i remember Bowkers getting those FMs for that Wm Blythe job. There was a lot of head-scratching in the yard when they arrived - especially as the people who specced them (not Bowkers - who pushed for their standard tractor) had turned their noses up at FH Globetrotters and insisted on flat-top FMs.
I bet their drivers were beside themselves with glee when they rolled up and saw those rat-traps backed under the new Van Hool tanks - parked alongside a load of Bowker FH Globetrotters. It’s a good job thee were only 5 of them…
I was told it was a complete c***k up at the time mark because Bowkers were not up to speed on ADR regs
It wasn’t Bowkers who specced them David - it was Blythes.
I remember at the time that there were some very frustrated people at Bamber Bridge because they knew there would be problems with the FMs. To top it all, they were specced with I-shift boxes, which all the drivers said they didn’t want - like the flat-top cabs which, compared to the standard Bowker Globetrotters, made them look a bunch of chumps.
I also remember at the time that the word in the yard was that the spec of the wagons & tanks was done deliberately by the bloke at Blythes as a last note of defiance before he lost the transport to Bowkers.

That would make a lot of sense Mark. Like the AEC/ Leyland story we heard at the Long Haul one time. Out of sequence but look what I found today.
Aha!! So there it is, the beasty from Davenports!!
It keeps passing me on Pippin Street whenever I’m going to/from Burscough, so I’m guessing it’s one of their local wagons.
It was around junction 23 of the M6, we were south bound with me taking what I could on the other side. July 2010. I also have a picture of one of them still in TRM livery but after the sale and somewhere I have one of them in ELW livery

P.S Does anyone know who runs the B&M Stores lorries?
They did run their own when based at Blackpool and Threlfalls did the servicing but if they have moved to Haydock as planned I don’t know what the set up is now.

B&M still have some stuff out of Squires Gate Blackpool, M Threlfall Tpt Freckleton look after some trailers still and Infrasteam Commercials at Clifton near Kirkham looked after the lorries for years and still look after a few i belive. The fleet is mainly based at Liverpool now as they opened a large new Warehouse there a couple of years back.
