i remember Bowkers getting those FMs for that Wm Blythe job. There was a lot of head-scratching in the yard when they arrived - especially as the people who specced them (not Bowkers - who pushed for their standard tractor) had turned their noses up at FH Globetrotters and insisted on flat-top FMs.

I bet their drivers were beside themselves with glee when they rolled up and saw those rat-traps backed under the new Van Hool tanks - parked alongside a load of Bowker FH Globetrotters. It’s a good job thee were only 5 of them…

I was told it was a complete c***k up at the time mark because Bowkers were not up to speed on ADR regs

Bowker are very up to speed on the ADR regs - as Mark says, there were other influences at work there. I have heard of further actions behind the scenes too which were intended to confound at every turn.

Oh yes, there were definitely other influences at work. I got told by GFW before the wagons landed and there was much chin-scratching & tutting going on. I still can’t believe those FMs came in dearer than the Bowker-spec FH Globetrotters. Even after all that, a couple of FHs ended-up having pumping gear installed anyway; bizarre.

Thanks for all the info chaps. Thankfully I do not talk to many people these days so the chance of mis information is reducing. Here is one that I know absolutely nothing about but fortunately there is a clue on the front

I’d forgotten about D S Smith - I used to see their motors quite often on Strand Rd in Preston when I worked there.

Seeing the K&N script on the front panel of that Axor makes me wonder whether they were own-account back then or whether someone else was doing their work…

It is the first one I have seen with the K&N name Mark but I do not know whether they ran their own or not.

Not the best picture I’ve ever taken but I think this is an improvement on Warisa’s normal livery.

Hello
Does anyone know who runs Lidi’s lorries?
Kindest regards
CG

There are several variations on some fleets mentioned.

DS Smiths were pulled and operated by AA Griggs iirc

Mauri Yeast were originally supplied by I J Blakey in Hull

Abbey Road tankers ran in ADM colours

W Golding ran in van Den Bergh and Jurgens colours

Loders & Crooklaan were another with sub contracted haulage.

Van Den Bosch run in several customer liveries, Cadbury. Suiker Unie, Animal Feeds.

C ■■■■ ran in several liveries. Symphony. Ask Tom for others

How about all the container companies in Felixstowe, run by the likes of Deben, Wincanton, Maritime and Hanbury Riverside in shipping line livery
