Most laws outside of capital crimes are garbage of ill-thought out to be honest.
Personal responsibility and careful nuanced approaches would be far and away more preferable to the nanny-state BS creeping in since at least the 1950s. The problem is British people are more and more liking to have government as a nanny or helicopter parent and it’s not really healthy to be like that.
Murder and the like seem easy to define and legislate for, yes. Few would argue that killing is normally wrong. But even then we have euthanasia and assisted suicide.
The state IMHO should be there to form a framework of laws, and provide services for those who either seek to take advantage of those weaker than themselves, or who are less able to look after themselves.
Nannies should let those who can walk by themselves, but should hold the hands of those who can’t.
There is a balance to be struck, but I do think that burning fossil fuel is not the way to go. It is a big money maker for many people and so needs gov to step up and make laws. The current money makers would otherwise screw thing up for our kids, so they can have fleets of yachts instead of just the one or two.
