UK/European Drivers in Canada

Hello All,

New to this forum and I apologize if I screw up in my first post. Willing to learn from all the vets in here.

I’m just wondering where is the best place to find European drivers who are interested in moving to Canada? Doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of free job boards like there is in Winnipeg to post anything, so I thought I’d reach out to the source!

The company I work for is coming to London in the first week of November, 2017 through our Provincial Nominee Program to recruit European drivers and I’d like to create some relationships with anyone interested before coming over.

Again, I’m sorry if I posted in the wrong area. I’ll delete and repost in whatever area i’m supposed to if someone can provide some direction.

Thanks a ton.

I suspect you’ll get mixed responses. There is no doubt those who have made the move in the past, failed to make it go and returned to the UK. There are a few members who have made a success of it too. If you search the forum you’ll find several several informative posts outlining the pitfalls of making the move to Canada

Thanks Guys - I’ve seen some different responses in regards to making the move and I can understand where there’s concern. I think if a company is clear and transparent and doesn’t “oversell/over promise” there’s likely to be a better fit with no surprises.

I think like any move, there’s always going to be good and bad. Guess it just depends on what the motivation is behind the move and if the company can provide the help on those motivators.

Damm if I had the cash to get to Canada and a sponsor for three visa I’m there

Always fancied trucking in Canada but never came to anything but a dream.

I have read that a lot of scammers try to get truckers sucked in on the Canadian dream job…

The only “scammers” are so called immigration lawyers who charge a huge fee whilst doing sfa,you don’t need these parasites . Some of the recruiters can be economical with the truth but isn’t that the same everywhere ? .Hmm , Don’t know much about Agritel although I’ve seen their trucks about , dream job it isn’t but it could be a way into the country , based in Winnipeg you’ll spend 5 months of the year in frigid temperatures and up to your nuts in snow , the highways will be dreadful , and you’ll be pulling a fridge (not that it matters because you’ll have to run the truck 24/7 anyhow).
If you’re interested go and have a chat , you can always say “no thanks”.

Sounds like a good chance for someone really serious about emigrating, and who has their eyes open.

Theres your laws on driving hours, quite a bit longer than in the UK/Europe, but it must less crowded in Canada, hence the hours are less stressful, traffic wise? Weather? Im a thin blooded type who can`t abide the cold. I know the correct clothing/equipment makes a big difference, but the winters would frighten me!
Looks like an interesting offer for some?

id go tomorrow, if i was single but its the hassle of finding somewhere to live etc for the wife and 3 lads

Hi

Would you be willing to answer a few basic questions about the job, on the main board, so that everyone interested could learn about terms and conditions on offer, and about the job itself, please?
This could save you a lot of time replying to every single interested one, one one to one basis.

Thanks

A very valid point.

Yep, good point and would save a lots of time.
Sadly I see this company seems to specialise in cross border down to California and Arizona on the website, this means it’s not for me as much as I would love to.
Always fancied it but my choice of lifestyle in my youth has left me unable to enter America.

Heres a link to their web site. Ive no clue whether thats good/bad/average for Canada. [expatistan.com/cost-of-livi ... n-manitoba](https://www.expatistan.com/cost-of-living/brandon-manitoba) Seems its about $4000per month start pay and $1000 per month rental for 85sq.m. apartment. Not a lot of point converting these figures into/out of £ as youll be paid/spend in $Can. There is a lot of info out there on the www. Heres a link to a 2013 thread:

Is there a (dreaded phrase) ‘driver shortage’ over the pond then? Just wondering why recruiting people to emigrate over is a thing.

Anybody wanting just to go over to USA for a temp trucking job 6-8months April/Nov Google:
“Custom Harvesters of America” and there’s usually a large amount of “Custom Cutters” looking truck drivers for grain harvest via the H2A temp work visa.

would it be worth passing your CDL for temp work? how do you go about getting a CDL license in USA?

The handy thing is the Custom Cutter takes care of the H2A visa AND putting you through CDL.
PLUS the rules via the H2A mean if you stay all season the CC pays the return flights!!![emoji41] [emoji106]
