UcanLGV - be careful

UcanLGV have been in touch and deny any involvement in the firm from the people named. They say that the person who answered the phone was a message handling service and was simply trying to take a message. That person is not employed by UcanLGV and would not be aware of of who is actually the owners or employed at UcanLGV.
As such any link with the people named is not proved and the comment has been removed…
We have offered UcanLGV the opportunity to use the forums to tell everyone who owns and run it, to dispell any further supposition/rumours
Of course if at any time anything comes to light that can be proved then the comment will be restored.

Same old, Same old!

I almost fell into this trap they constantly rang me etc and yesterday I made my mind up to swerve them and use the fella who taught my dad 12 years ago.

The man (Paul) hasn’t rang me today to chase me to pay as I said I’d have an answer after researching ucanlgv company!!!

Has your old man said, “Yeah, you’ll listen to those half wits on Trucknet but not me?”

Some more gems from Ucan’s website…

You will never have to worry about not being able to find employment

As a direct result of the extreme need for LGV Drivers, the salaries for qualified professionals has risen to an all time high.

As a Driver, you will receive a variety of perks, including local routes, standard work hours, sick time and up to 25 Holidays per year!

Drivers in the UK have more than just a steady job, they have a life long career in which they are able to grow and prosper.

To put it simply, that means a new Driver can earn more money at their first job than ever before.

Not a problem, complaint and screenshots from it’s website already on it’s way to the ASA :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

The ASA have proven to be quite valuable in getting these sort of websites amended ‘voluntarily’, only problem is that they disappear and reappear with a different url.

EDIT: HMRC are also now aware of this company, to just make sure they’re VAT registered, you understand.

EDIT 2: I can’t seem to find their info on the Information Commissioners website.

I wonder what finance packages they offer and/arrange? I’ll have to check with the Office of Fair Trading to make sure their consumer credit license is up to date. :grimacing: :grimacing:

Trading without a licence

It is a criminal offence to carry out any activities that require a consumer credit licence before a licence is issued to you, this includes publicly launching a website.

Unlicensed trading is punishable by a fine and/or imprisonment. Additionally, if any of your customers were to default on a payment, you would not be able to enforce the credit agreement made while you were unlicensed without making a special application to the OFT.

Individuals who wish to secure their C & E license may enroll in a course for their C license concurrently if they do not already possess it. This means you can receive both licenses in one half of the time it would take to do so from other training facilities. We understand that once you’ve decided to set out on your new career, you don’t want to waste time, so we do everything we can to help you achieve success as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Who the ■■■■ makes this ■■■■ up? It’s mostly lies and BS. You have to have your Cat C before you can drive a C+E as your Cat C is your C+E provisional. Written by someone in an office who has a very basic understanding of HGV work.
80’000 vacancies? Where do they get this from. I’d love to see some figures.
I don’t understand why people use these firms myself, but if they choose to they shouldn’t be lied to and taken for a ride.
One of the testimonials says,

“Believe me as someone who has done it, the training was first

class! The staff at are undoubtedly the best at what they

do. I went from working as a part time office clerk to a full time

driver in less than 7 weeks and increased my take home pay by

£670 per month!”

I’m assuming being the best at what they do is taking money and doing little for it because whoever wrote the website has very little transport knowledge.

I fully understand and accept the reasoning behind this removal. If the person I mentioned or his “family” have no connection with UcanLGV then of course I apologise to UcanLGV.
I am quite sure that all they say on their website is nothing but the honest truth and I am equally sure that UcanLGV will take this opportunity to clarify who the owners/directors are. This will allow them to distance themselves from the more unscrupulous brokers within the business.
Again, my apologies to all at UcanLGV if in anyway I have misled anyone…

When did the whole “broker” thing start? They certainly didn’t exist when I started driving, you just found a driving school and contacted them.

I’m sure they weren’t around even ten years ago. Anybody know when it all started?

I don’t know when it started, but it’s about time that the DSA insisted that HGV/PCV training was done to the same rules as car training. Registered ADI’s & schools etc. The unscrupulous brokers would disappear overnight and have to find other ways to fund their lavish cars, houses & lifestyles. The only way to fight back legally as I’ve found (and had success)is to report exaggerated claims (whether on websites or hardcopy) to the ASA, and to get HMRC to check for VAT compliance, the current VAT threshold is £77,000 which equates to ~70 students! In my experience Consumer Direct (trading standards) aren’t interested unless you’ve had direct dealings with the broker. I know that this board & RTM can’t do much without hard evidence, for which I’ve thrown my toys out in frustration, but the governments lawyers & quangos are bigger than the brokers or RTM’s lawyers :exclamation: :grimacing: :grimacing: .

I can’t help feeling life would be made more difficult for them if the soaraway Sun refused their advertising, instead of running bogus news stories about the “driver shortage” next to their adverts.

Someone is upset - so can we all be a bit careful in what we say about UcanLGV - stick to facts or valid comment- Do not make statements or allegations that you havent sent me the proof of, or they will get removed.

to give an example you cannot say that XXXXXX is a rip off merchant - unless you have the proof of a county court judgement against them

You can say that their website is very similar and makes similar claims to YYYYYYYY who have been prosecuted by Trading Standards and have multiple CCJ’s against them and so being careful and putting some thought into wether, going with a broker using this terminology, is a good idea ,Is maybe something folks looking for training should do.

As far as I know UcanLGV have done nothing illegal- Nor do I know of any training paid for that has not taken place.- their marketing is similar to any others , slick, appetising and according to the ASA legal - It is not up to me to decide if it morally correct, that I will leave up to all of you.

I personally find it disquieting that it is impossible to find out who the owners are and that UcanLGV seem unwilling to bring that information forward, but again that is totally legal and it is up to you all to decide if that bothers you before you part with your cash.

I personally dislike the whole broker industry, I think it is uneeded and often makes unfounded promises to extract cash from those looking to make a change in their lives… That does not make it illegal - unsavoury? distasteful? well you make your own decision

I have no problems with Ucanlgv

I do have problems with Haaris Mahmood, DirectLGV and KHMO Ltd who owe me money. I will send you a photo of the bounced cheque and you can have copies of the emails from him stating that a bacs transfer will occur in the next few days… nothing happened

And as far as any one knows they are two seperate issues, so perhaps take your issues with Haaris to a seperate thread unless you can show a link between the two

… and now go onto the “further training” page and this is what’s at the bottom of it.
