News articles have said that he had left the motorway at junction T5, but had turned around at the tollbooths after his card was declined.
So rather than simply taking a wrong turning somewhere, he was trying to avoid paying the toll. And if he was planning to avoid the next tollbooths he would have had to make another u-turn to leave the motorway at an entry sliproad.

This is the what happened.

He didn’t make a simple mistake. He deliberately turned around at the tolls and drove the wrong way down the slip to rejoin the motorway with the intention of trying to leave by an entry slip to avoid paying.

He should be taken off the roads

What is unbelievable is that some of you are trying to make excuses for him.

When you start to be happy that the idiots amongst your brethren have been removed people will have more respect for you.

At the time of some of the previous comments the above information had not come to light.

Hiya …not read every view…i think he may have been going to go down the motorway the wrong way.
possibly it was the Bestblock lorry made him realize he was going the wrong way. doing a you ie was the
best way out of the situation…some brits would have reversed back up the slip i,ve seen it.

Well said fella.
Look how close the oncoming traffic is when he makes his potential life threatening attempt to rejoin the Motorway. very lucky there wasn’t carnage.
And to some it was a mistake…NO it wasn’t, he meant to do it.

Its been in our national paper also

if he meant to do it,then hes obviously not as green as hes cabbage looking… its a misleading junction, and mabey once he commited himself, then he just went for it,got caught, and crucified for doing so. there were no cars anywhere near him on the m/way,none had to swerve, skid or avoid him,and the only fault would poss be he didn’t swing right round onto the hard shoulder till he got up to 50 ish before pulling out.theres not a chance he could have caused an accident the way he drove.(apart from going the wrong way to atart with, but its not exactly dangerous what he did)…the outside lane car driver might have coughed in his skiddies a bit,but dosent look anything that could even be described as a close call. he got what he got due to politics, plus it makes good news…MOTORWAY JUGGERNAUT WITH FLIPFLOP DRIVER DOES U TURN…COULD HAVE CAUSED CARNAGE,MAYHEM ,MILES OF TAILBACKS AND CHAOS.( but didn’t)… it sells papers. :unamused:

If a national newspaper used the term “flip flop driver” in the headline, I would make my year

One of my favourite Trucknet expressions.

Ever think that it’s this type of reasoning that gives truck drivers a bad name.

“He knew what he was doing and didn’t kill anyone so that’s ok then.”

You just don’t get it do you.

It isn’t just about what he did, it’s also his total and utter disregard for others safety and the law of this land.

Do you really want people like him sharing the road with you because I certainly don’t.

The more poor drivers that get found and banned the better conditions and wages will get for the SKILLED workforce left.

If that isn’t an incentive for truck drivers to rid their ranks of numpties I don’t know what is.

Unless of course your own work isn’t top notch?

The best way to stop this happening again is for the UK to join the rest of the continent and switch to driving on the right. Just need to repaint some arrows and change some road signs and jobs a goodun. Worked for Samoa a few years back.

So how do you go about dealing with a card (or a TAG) that doesn’t work at a toll? Do you get an I.O.U or pulled to one side, chalked round, cabled up and clamped until someone arrives with said fee?? Our tags regularly ping up ‘low credit’ and the one time I used my debit card, it didn’t ask me for the pin…how come? Vowed not to use it again…not to mention the 6 weeks it took to get the £19.20 back!

Bus passengers rend not to be best pleased when they have to step off the bus into the middle of the road

Its not only us that drives on the left, over a 3rd of the world’s population does.

Agree with others, the guy has made a mistake that’s easily done when driving “on the wrong side” then put it right as early and safely as he could. Penalty is harsh compared to what criminals get. (a little slap on the wrist). Unfortunately for him big brother was watching by camera.

^^This 100%. He made a huge ■■■■ up, that much is true but he got out of it quite well in the end without issue. No amount of heavy handed punishments will act as a deterrent or make a difference because mistakes like this aren’t on purpose, they’re a split second lack of attention. Growing up I heard many tales of British drivers doing things on the wrong side of the road in Europe and it was all treated as one big joke and part of the learning curve. Unfortunately many people today are nothing more than vindictive grasses who can’t stand to see people get away with mistakes that they themselves think they wouldn’t get away with.

Would you be saying that if your family or friends went under it ?
It happens and for what ?

To save a rolling road block and doing it safely all to save a few quid fine? ?

I was once waiting at a very busy & quite large roundabout in Brum (Maypole, for anyone who knows it), a woman went past then realising she’d missed her exit, stopped, reversed, grinning all the way… everyone just stopped, gobsmacked. I wish gimboids like her would get banned.
Also once I stopped a woman to point out she was going the wrong way down a one way street - she said “it’s her fault, she told me to go down here”, pointing to a girl in the passenger seat, aged about 12 :open_mouth:
At least the trucker made a mistake we can all understand, and tried to sort it safely.
