Since when did milk become hazard
Something deep in the muddle of my brain is saying a litre of milk will do more damage to watercourses than the same amount of waste engine oil.
The milk will be diluted and still de-oxygenate the water but the oil will stick together.
NewLad:
A tanker driver for Total told me that driving a empty tanker that has been carrying petrol is more dangerous than if it is full because of the amount of fumes dunno if he was talking [zb] tho
Absolutely true. And still under ADR regs unless purged.

RDC = Regional Distribution Centre or Hell
Actually, if the quantities carried in a tanker spilled into a river its very harmful to the wildlife…
Good job I dont drink milk then

Since when did milk become hazardActually it is, although one that doesn’t require an ADR. If you have a spillage you instantly need to notify the emergency services because milk deoxygenates water and if it gets into a water course via drains etc it can kill all the fish.
This…
So abit of a middle finger to those that were taking the ■■■■ out of the op.
It’s illegal to tranfer milk from tank to tank on ground that drains to watercourses and should only be undertaken on licenced ground, yes milk does de-oxygenate water, so strictly should be classed as a hazard.
When I was collecting milk from farms there was talk of an H&S requirment being brought out to wear eye protection to prevent bacterial infection getting in through the eye. On the other hand most dairy farmers and their children are brought up on raw milk with no health problems.

Cheers Saaamon, was only asking a Question, sorry to those who knows everything .

and this is a pee take!

do i need a adr if i fill my tank with fuel
Everything is hazardous in the right quantities, who’d have thought flour was hazardous, but mix it with air and light a match, or you can put it on a reefer with margarine…
A perfectly reasonable question was asked
jackg:
- Do you need ADR,to drive a milk tanker …
Hi jackg,
You only need an ADR licence for a tanker if you’re carrying a substance that the law counts as “dangerous.”
Milk is not counted as dangerous.
Other posters have mentioned that milk is ‘hazardous,’ and they’re correct but that’s exactly what the difference is…
Anybody can drive hazardous stuff, but ADR is needed for dangerous stuff.
Tarrman:
I have a question, can you drive an empty petrol tanker without an ADR cert’?
Hi Tarrman,
If the petrol tanker is simply ‘empty,’ then it remains fully subject to all ADR requirements, including the need for an ADR tanks licence.
If the tanker is empty AND cleaned and purged, then anybody with the correct driving licence can drive it.

I was born on a dairy farm and the cows teats are washed off with paper towels and given a chemical wash before the vacumn clusters are attached,in a hurry, you can miss particles of cow muck and straw bits on the teats that go in to the bulk tank.
The cows muck boosted my immunity system to fight off colds and flus,as i would drink untreated milk, full of bugs.
The teats would be dipped in iodine solution after the clusters were taken off.
With a rise in Asthma, there is a link to having such a sterile household enviroment for kids, not saying that they should be drinking milk with cow muck in it,but i am still alive.

But as always seems some ppl Know it all(not)
As im new to this industry, i didnt know if all tanker drivers had to have ADR, no matter what they were carrying.
Cheers for your advice, about 5 ppl answered my questions, with a decent answer

I agree with your statement Dave, we always used the words “notionally empty” if the tank had not been cleaned and purged and up until then it must adhere to the ADR regs.
I was always taught (many years ago) that if I was stopped by any law enforcement officer with a notionally empty tank I must still have all the protective clothing in my cab locker that was stated on the hazchem card, otherwise I would be committing an offence.
Maybe you can answer another question for me.
If a driver who has all the necessary protective clothing to drive the tanker takes a spare driver to collect another vehicle (for example) is the spare driver committing an offence if he doesn’t also have the protective clothing with him needed for the product carried?
