hope things are working out for you guys if they dont Carr Bros in northampton use double teams one of my old collegues work on there with his better half
Thanks for the tip off kerwyn but Caffreys seems to be suiting us fine at the moment. We’ll stay here a while to gain a bit of Continental experience before looking around for something that might better suit. Thanks again. John & Tracey
Giving tips is hard now cos there are so many rules and regs.
What I will say though is that DON’T believe half the crap you hear over there … NEVER do something that sounds iffy just cos Johnny in the truckstop says it is ok.
For Gods sake, keep your cards up to date and if you have any time off, get the Letter off the Boss saying you have been on rest or holiday (especially if your truck has been used).
When in Germany obey all the roadsigns ie no overtaking and speed limits. When in France, the Gendarmes will use any excuse to relieve you off money.
You might dress Katie in a short skirt as that could come in handy some days LOL
I have found in recent years that the Police all over Europe are getting more and more strict. The days of ‘coffee money’ are long gone.

Some things don’t change then Austin, in my day I put Fran in a tight sweater though. Worked every time at Aosta, not that my mates appreciated it - they had to find some ‘coffee money’

I’ve seen some old pics of your Fran in a tight sweater!!! I wouldn’t have been happy either knowing you were cuddling up to her every night
Well lads it’s been over a month with Caffrey int now and so far so good. We’ve so far been to Germany, Holland, France a few times, Belgium, Spain and Portugal. At the interview we were told that there may be the odd double man run but so far we’ve been double manning most day’s. I think he’s really seeing the benefit of having Katie on tap when he needs to get stuff there fast. We had a quick run down to Portugal with 900 ltrs of some product that had to be there yesterday. God knows how much it cost to send a 45 foot fridge double manned all the way down there? The mind boggles. We’re still wingin it a bit with the regs doing my 4-30 the herself taking over for her 4-30 then stopping for 45 then repeating this then stopping for 9. (if anybody knows bette then let us know but we were stopped by two bike cops in Spain and they seemed happy enough. We called in at the Guildford VOSA branch for some advice but they were less than helpful telling us to telephone for any advice. Yeh sure on an Irish mobile■■? We are really enjoying ourselve’s though. Caffrey’s don’t push too hard and leave route planning to yourself. As long as the deadline’s are met they are happy. We’ve had loads of time off and made the most of it by sight seeing whenever we can, we stayed for 3 days in a Portuguese village one week and dropped a clanger by leaving the air con pod on all night and running the battery flat, fortunately all our trucks carry jump leads and the Porchy’s are allway’s obliging. The only regret so far has been going over the Millau in the dark and missing all that scenery. Well as we said b4 guys give us a wave and a flash if u see our topline out and about. John & Katie

EU regs - you drive 4.5 - lady drive 4.5 - you drive 4.5 - lady drive 4.5 - you drive 1 - lady drive 1 that’s 20 hours out of a possible 21 hours day if you both use a 10 hour driving day and all legal
The non driver is having a break (not rest) when not driving.

Blimey ROG, You’ve ventured into the Euro forum… are you feeling OK mate??
Steady on ROG, that’s somewhat outside of the Leicester ring-road.
Alison & Adam who we met on the shuttle on friday. If you read this could you pm us when you get the chance for a natter. John & Tracey
Tell us this lads…Why do peage tolls have to be so bloody tight? Whenever I’m driving there always seems to be a wide truck one open that I can steam through with my eyes closed but when our lass is behind the wheel the wide ones seem to be closed and she gets one thats about a millimeter wider than the truck. Wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t put those two great big lumps of concrete on either side with all the scars and scrapes on them from poor buggers who’ve made the slightest of errors and payed dearly for it. Anyway we were on our way north from Bordeaux the other night, me in the bunk snoring away as we were on a 1500 km jaunt when Katie approached the peage and was jumped on by 5 Duane shining torches at her and directing her into the truck bay. They were a bit concerened because we’d not been able to close one of the fridge doors fully as the stupid farmer had overlapped the pallets and we’d only just managed to close the left hand door (the right one was fully closed. There were three women and two men who drifted off to collar some other poor misfortunate, once we’d flashed the cmr so we got out and went to the back door’s to explain about the firms special imigrant lock, controlled by the trailer park brake and they had a good old laugh about the imigrants and said they ought to kick em all into England where they belong. we agreed with em laughing and having the crack hiding behind our Ireland emblasened truck not letting on that I was from Derbyshire and herself was from Lancashire!!! You know what they say…any port in a storm.
They happilly waved us on our way and we were happy to go, of course. Sure there must be a moral in this somewhere eh

Lovely place this stop is. Great friendly staff and lovely meals. Really cheap parking compared to gretna and lockerbie. GREAT SERVICE
