Without the waiting around for loading/unloading or getting a boat, I still figured it at least one day a week beyond legal, if not two.
From what the guy on the phone was telling me. I figured load Scotland/North England to Pompey/Southampton, one day. Cherbourg to the forest, day two. Forest to Madrid, and if your lucky enough to tip, you would get less than an hour towards Portugal, day three. From where ever you parked on day three to loading point, load and back into Spain,if your lucky, day four. From Spain to Cherbourg and get on a boat and off again, is another two days. That makes six days already and at best, your still only one/two hours north of Pompey/Southampton. So unless USS Enterprise comes into the equation somewhere, your not going to make it back to Scot/North England and tip in the same week.
Unless someone knows better.
Things may have changed though, this was about ten years ago.

you would be surprised how many english drivers work for them but they wouldn’t be on here cos they don’t stop long enough
one told me basic per month is 1100pounds before stoppages then 200pounds for barcelona round trip and he was doing two a week
Thanks Welshboyinspain. Wonder if that would be times two for herself? It’s such a pity it’s over in the north east cos we still want to reside in R.O.I. and take advantage of no council tax…yet! So te travelling home every once in a while would be too lengthy and too costly.
It’s ne thing working from say Manchester or Liverpool, both are reached by cheap Ryanair flight’s or ferry’s but traipsing over to the far side is putting us both off at the moment. We’ll still keep looking though. Thanks again to you all for your comments and advice. Keep em comin folks. John & Tracey
Much obliged guys. I tried with an Email and am waiting for a reply. It would be a fair trek over there just to get turned down at the get but if we get a response we’ll be on the next flight over. Once again thanks everybody thats helped. John & Tracey
i have a gut feeling thats a firm that a sydney bloke owns who got banned for 5 years along with 6 out of 7 drivers. can anyone remember that, we had a tread on it

We’re still looking lads. surely there MUST be some firm looking for a husband and wife team who don’t care how long there away for■■?
I thought most Irish firms paid trip money. £600 to Italy I heard about 15yrs ago. With two of you, you could get more trip in legally and earn more that way.
Try Eardley International. Ecclefechan,Nr Lockerbie. Do swinging lambs out of N Wales to wherever in europe. Drivers ALWAYS away weeks at a time. Decent enough tackle. When home, nice hotel in village. Eardley runs the truck stop at Ecclefechan with all facilities, showers, laundry, cafe etc.
Well guys at long last we did it. We got taken on by Caffrey International at Ashbourne County Meath ROI and we ship out this Sunday. He’s taken me on as principal driver with Tracey available for any double manned runs so we came up trumps. Thanks for all the advice and tips everybody that contributed. Give us the lights and a wave if you see us out there. John and Tracey

Just want to wish you both good luck It’s not so often, these days, that you hear of driver’s getting the job they really want to do Hope things work out for you both and have a safe first trip.
It would be great if you could do a diary of how things run for you and if the double manning makes life easier or harder
Yep there sure are a lot of commies on the books but they seem ok. Our first trip was a doddle. Over to Schiphol then pick a load up from Belgium (didn’t know about the tax for these two Countries but you live and learn) for Kent then load in Redditch for Aldi in Naas.
The outfit seems very pro and the Caffrey’s seem grand. Would appreciate any tips that are gonna save us a fine lads. We’ll try to keep some sort of a log on here but it’ll be a bit spasmodic cos of internet access. All for trucks is great . Stayed the other night. And one last thing since getting this job Tracey is now using her middle name so if you see a Caffreys Scania (this may change) with KATIE in the widow give us both a wave. T.T.F.N. John & Tracey or should I say Katie.
