Talking of Turks in day cabs, used to see a few of them in Italy in old bonnetted Internationals or Macks, as you know the yank trucks have very narrow cabs so arbi used to have a hammock under the trailer, not a bad job in the summer, but can’t have been much fun in winter
They still make Tonkas in Turkey, that’s where Merc make the Axor, bit more modern than nailing an axle on the back of a D1000, but if you listen to the whinging about Axors on the UK Driver’s forum the Turks still know how to make a bad lorry
Digressing slightly,but on the subject of sleeping accomodation.
I remember seeing at the Londra Mocamp a couple of Iranian artics and the drivers were happy to show me their sleeping accomodation which was a tidy sized box under the trailer chassis,behind the axles!.
Ok I suppose as long as no one took it to be a belly tank!
Another great thread this one with some great old bangers. I was in Turkey a couple of summers ago and I can say thet the Tonka is alive and well,not as many as I remember from my first visit in 89 but still lots about.

i’ve not seen any for years, the group definitely is though - sabanci, they now own banks and are the turkish partner for loads of big western names, carrefour and others, so maybe they’ve got out of lowly pursuits like transport i remember dave charlton saying he delivered a load of antiques to the head of the family’s house years ago, no idea when but i’m sure he said somewhere just east of istanbul

Auch der große Er-Sen mit Fiat und Mack F 700 gibt es nicht mehr, der Alte hat es sein Sohn übergeben und er hat keine interesse an Transport und Trucks.

This was taken in a town called Bergama,which is a bit north of Izmir on a stinking hot day,so hot the tar seal stuck to me thongs[flip flops to you blokes]
This next one was taken on the same day at the Canakkale ferry,after a very refeshing Effes contol and a few games of backgammon. I reckon this bloke had had a bit of drama.
A passing Macadonian driver took one look at the fifth wheel and said to me ‘BIG PROBLEM’
If you look closely you can see that the trailer is not sat down on the fifth wheel,daylight can be seen between the two,pretty dodgy stuff.
