Trump comes up trumps for truckers

Here are a few headlines from the good old US of A today from the whitehouse press. Sorry cannot add the pics.

Trump hosts awards event for truck drivers
Trump patted a truck parked on the White House lawn

“In the war against the virus the truckers are the foot soldiers,” the president says as he hands over “awards” - which look like gold-coloured keys - to select truckers who have been invited to speak from the White House grounds.

“To every trucker listening over the radio or behind the wheel… I say thank God for truckers,” says Trump.

“Truckers keep our economy running - and now, in this time of national need - saving lives,” he adds.

Trump jokes that people may not consider him “essential,” but says the truck drivers are.

I’ve never seen Donald Trump portrayed in the brit media in anything other than a negative fashion.
He is rated well by a large part of american society and I think that his bluff and bluster will benefit the western world to take a stance against China, for example. There is a good chance he will be re elected later this year which will be a sickener for his most vocal critics.

Indeed. It is a shame that for the time being at least - our own Tories seem to have chosen an alternative path now that they’ve got a majority to rule with for 5 years, without needing any closer alliance with America to go about making some questionable decisions, such as “no blame China” and “Let’s do 5g with China’s help” crap.

Trump’s a shrewd businessman at the end of the day, not some ten a penny politician, he knows that without real people actually doing the real work the whole pack of cards would collapse.

Really?
We may disagree there.

More people disagreed in November 2016 too, but they didn’t disagree in those places that count - the rust belt states in particular.

Trump didn’t need “Florida” in the end, and Wisconsin was a complete bonus…

Juddian:
Trump’s a shrewd businessman at the end of the day,

He really isn’t. Hes a lucky businessman. His wealth isn’t anything like he claims and indeed he probably doesn’t really know himself how much he’s worth. Watch his shambolic press conferences, he’s a moron whos only interest is himself

True that more people preferred Clinton to Trump in 2016. But Trump carried more electoral colleges and so won.

Those who had dealings with his 4 (?) bankrupt companies certainly were not as lucky as him. His greatest luck was having extremely rich parents, and being able to use their money and contacts.
.
You’re right of course that we don’t know how much he is worth. He hasn’t kept his off repeated promises to follow most previous Presidents and publish his finances. That’s on going in the Supreme Court isn’t it?
.
Businessmen look to the short term, and aren’t afraid to use bankruptcy as a tool. I don’t see that as a positive in a politician.
.
There is much more to a country than just a balance sheet.

It’s time to get over yourselves people, he is but one man.

An elected figurehead of a construct created over two hundred years ago born out of a desire to be free from the oppression of the day.

Absolute power corrupts, absolutely.

So all the while you are sharing your own thoughts and arguments about how you believe he is this or that, says more about you.
You haven’t got a ■■■■■■■ clue.

Sounds like 90% of the World’s business leaders and politicians.

Trump a moron? I doubt it, an extreme narcissist most definitely, but he knows his audience, he knows who he has to please to get elected, Salute truck drivers, this plays well with many Americans, they see ordinary people like themselves being praised, it offers a positive message to people.

These are things the the Democratic party seems not to understand, you don’t get elected by minorities alone and you don’t get elected by having your main policy being a negative, you have to offer people hope, something to believe in, they’re offering Bidden and “Orange Man Bad”. A failed report, a failed impeachment, the more they go after Trump the more they’re seen as the out of touch establishment and the more Trump gains from it. Which is great if you support Trump, but very depressing and worrying if you don’t.

and It seems for the media their hated for him has consumed them so much that they incapable of rational reporting, you should see some of the original footage of things Trump has done and then the edited highlights makes a very different story, they shouldn’t need to do that plenty of gaffs without doctoring footage, which is then picked up on and discredits them.

So all the while you are sharing your own thoughts and arguments about how you believe he is this or that, says more about you.
You haven’t got a [zb] clue.

Lucky? Don’t think so Chief. Takes more than luck to make millions and become the world’s most powerful man…
He also refused to take his wage when he became president which I thought was a decent gesture.

trump has balls big enough to go out in public with that comb over.
he has enough money not to give a toss about wages from ruling the free world, not what anyone elses opinion is compared to his…
he is building a wall to keep the vermin out,and shipping the ones back that they find once they are in.
way to go trumpybaby…shouldnt we be taking a leaf from his book?

“Throughout his 2015–2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump called for construction of a large fortified border wall, claiming that if elected he would “build the wall and make Mexico pay for it.”[57] Even before declaring his candidacy he declared he wanted “nothing to do with Mexico other than to build an impenetrable WALL”. In his June 2015 announcement of his candidacy he promised “I would build a great wall, and no one builds walls better than me, believe me, and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great wall and I’ll have Mexico pay for that wall.”[58] Throughout his campaign he described his vision of a concrete wall, 30 to 50 feet (10–15 m) high and covering 1,000 miles (1,600 km) of the 1,900 mile (3,050 km) border”
“On December 17, 2019, acting Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Mark Morgan stated that 93 miles of new wall has been built during the Trump administration; according to CBP figures, at least 90 miles of that replaced existing structures.[13] A private organization called We Build the Wall has constructed 0.5 miles (0.80 km) of new wall on private property near El Paso, Texas, with Trump’s encouragement.”

So, that`s 3 miles of the 1,000 done so far then…
“way to go trumpbaby”…yep, a long, looong, way yet.

“Trump has often said he began his career with “a small loan of one million dollars” from his father, and that he had to pay it back with interest.[62] In October 2018, The New York Times reported that Trump “was a millionaire by age 8”, borrowed at least $60 million from his father, largely failed to reimburse him, and had received $413 million (adjusted for inflation) from his father’s business empire over his lifetime.”
“Analyses by The Economist and The Washington Post have concluded that Trump’s investments underperformed the stock market.”
“Trump’s tax returns from 1985 to 1994 show net losses totaling $1.17 billion over the ten-year period, in contrast to his claims about his financial health and business abilities. The New York Times reported that “year after year, Mr. Trump appears to have lost more money than nearly any other individual American taxpayer”, and Trump’s “core business losses in 1990 and 1991 – more than $250 million each year – were more than double those of the nearest taxpayers in the I.R.S. information for those years”. In 1995 his reported losses were $915.7 million”
“While Trump has not filed for personal bankruptcy, his over-leveraged hotel and casino businesses in Atlantic City and New York filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection six times between 1991 and 2009.[114][115] They continued to operate while the banks restructured debt and reduced Trump’s shares in the properties.[114][115]
During the 1980s, more than 70 banks had lent Trump $4 billion,[116] but in the aftermath of his corporate bankruptcies of the early 1990s, most major banks declined to lend to him, with only Deutsche Bank still willing to lend money”

Or in other words: it can all be checked and verified, or ignored/disbelieved as anyone sees fit.
Much more there about his claims, and whether or not those claims stand up.
Worth noting that Trump has a history of litigation, but clearly hasn`t been successful in quashing the news articles cited by Wiki.
