Weve all been in this situation. You are overtaking a car at 1 or 2mph more tham him, then he decides to accelerate away. Then you indicate to move back to the slow lane,ah but you cant because a truck has started overtaking on the left now,so you have to wait for him to get out the way.It really annoys me.
Do you do this?
Maybe you would like to explain why you cant understand its entirely my fauly Im stuck in the middle lane!

Firstly its not a slow lane, all lanes have the same speed limit, unless otherwise stated, i.e smart motorway.
Yes its very annoying, I’ve had cars do just that aswell…
I had some idiot overtake and jump infront of me at some traffic lights, causing me to brake hard, so I sounded the horn “to let him know I’m there” he got out of the car and started to give me verbal, he also said he was in the fast lane and when I said there is no fast lane he had a vacant stare then got back in his car, his passengers also gave me the one finger salute…

I must be lucky then, I’ve never had this happen to me in 4 years of driving. Now, moving over 1 lane to let a lorry merge in from a slip road and then being stuck head-to-head as he refuses to let you back in, that’s a different thing and happens all the time. This is why I don’t move out for cars anymore because most just don’t have the decency to let you back in. Most don’t like it especially if they end up spending the first quarter mile on the hard shoulder, but some car drivers can’t seem to grasp those hash lines at the end of the slip road mean give way not just pull out without any regard to the 40 tonne truck travelling at 56 mph compared to their 50 mph

Is this OK if you’re clearly faster than the truck already on the motorway? I.e. you’re gaining/passing him while on the slip road?

Do you get anxious driving in lane 2?

“check the traffic on the motorway and match your speed to fit safely into the traffic flow in the left-hand lane”
Highway Code rule 259.

Do not overtake unless you have the speed to do it.
Generally the trucks I drive do about 56mph. I set my CC at 50 to 52. Which gives me up to 6mph extra umph if needed. So, I am never in a situation of trying to overtake a vehicle that is doing 1mph more than me.
This is the issue. Don’t get in the rat race of trying 1mph or 0.5mph overtakes just so you can stick to your limiter. I used to do it as well, it is a easy habit to get into but I personally find it is just more stressful.

Not everyone is paid by the hour! If the motorway is empty enough I’ll happily take miles to overtake someone and not be stressed about it.

so that sounds fine then, fit safely in front of them [emoji3]

Sounds like you need to find a better job.
Yet to find an employer that pays day rate for the benefit of the employee.
What I don’t get is people who happiky sit there with a big truck/bus behind them.
WAs driving down the M66 the other day and every time I went t over take a car it matched my speed and when I pulled back in again the car in front reduced it again. You would think people would rather drive a few miles quicker and not have a big vehicle following them.
I just flash the a hole who speed up the slow down
If its night il have beam and front fog on too
Once I was on thr m40 were it splits to m6 had left indicator on I’m in lane 2, car is far away I still have left indicator and move off and he speed up and horns and brake checks lightly was wishigh he brake checked me hard he would be in hell right nw
Do not overtake unless you have the speed to do it. What great advice
Some drivers don’t possess that skill but in reality they don’t have the gumption to lift off and slow down a little. In their mind it’s the cars fault.
They have no self control. Full gas or nothing.

If you are on the slip road and a truck moves over for you I think it is good manners to let them pass you. Then pass them. I would suggest most HGV drivers would get this.

Mmm,when I see lorries, everyone is in a mad rush.I dont think we can afford to knock the cruise down even by 1/2 mph.In any case, what happens when you get to the next car,you slow down again so by the time you get there ,youve lost a lot of speed.
Me,I dont mind spending a long time in the middle lane overtaking. Its just as wide as the left lant, and it goes the same way,so I think we need to embrace this idea more,as lorry drivers ,get out of this idea of needing to be in the left lane all the time.
I guess that first we need to establish the exact motivation for the all too common situation of drivers accelerating when being overtaken.Rather than the results of it.
The same applies in the case of those who clearly adjust their speed or tailgate to deliberately block merging or lane changing traffic.

Sounds like the words of a new driver!
Hopefully you’ll grow out of it pretty quickly. Although judging by the amount of elephant racing I see, plenty don’t.
If you were stuck behind someone who’s limiter was set 1 kph lower than yours for 4 hours, your journey would take 2 mins longer. Think about that next time you spend 10 mins overtaking somebody.
It just makes you look a clown.

Might be better for you but for the rest of the people on the motorway for the next mile behind you, not so good.
Have you never seen the traffic that builds up when 2 slower moving vehicles are in the first 2 lanes and all cars are then trying to overtake in the outside lane?
