I read the posts every day, but lately it is doing my brain in…
I can’t reverse

Tacho regukations

When I was 17, I was sent to marseille, on my own in a transit. I bought a map, and did it.
I now drive a 44t artic, when I get new jobs, I sort it,

WTF is wrong with the new generation of drivers.
I don’t know when you started driving but when I started there was no internet or mobile phones so you learned from other drivers.
I doubt anything has really changed as far as the questions are concerned, it’s just that now people ask the questions in open forums rather than talking directly to other drivers face to face.

i would sort of agree with you, some of the posts do leave a bit to be desired from guys and girls that are supposed to be professional drivers. but asking for advise is not a bad thing and with the Internet now its even easier, i just think some of the questions are not put on the right forums

Most young or new driver probably won’t ask other drivers for advice in case they a met with an attitude like this?
And with the Internet being the quickest way to access information, why sit reading a book of regulations if you only want to know one or two quick things? It’s easier to ask on here and have the information given to you quickly and in a manner that you can understand.
its cos the net is faceless!! i see plenty of times other drivers willing to sit in their cabs and watch others make mistakes, even recording it on their phones… same with sheeting, curtains, ect in high winds,
same with tachos, even though ive been driving for 20 yrs i still get confused, only because some employers interpret their own rules, and some of the stuff you read or are told on courses are not exactly spot on… like I got put on a disciplinary for tacho for not putting my total mileage for the day? which isn’t an infringement, or again when some marks were found on the disc by the analysis company, some 4 weeks after I had handed them in to transport and they signed for them…
I know a guy who as come out of army with his hgv license as part of resettlement but had never reversed a trailer? how the hell is this allowed? though he is a great lad and as paid a local trainer for a days reversing, but how many others have not??
I think the main difference now compared to when I started driving many years ago was the regulations, H&S and other bull droping that go along with the job now, back in the day you just got in and drove, thats were the “REAL DRIVERS” were made and they picked up the new regs when they came in or stood around stuffin there faces with bacon butties puttin the world to rights.
Now new drivers not only have to face the daunting task of much bigger trucks, more traffic, more knoob heads on the road and a large proprtion of “REAL DRIVERS” looking down there nose at them and boss’s that take advantage because there new that they have a harder time of it.
Personaly (and this is just my opinion) I’m not sure comments like these are particuly helpfull as “REAL DRIVERS” arn’t that approachable anymore, chances are if you ask a question that they think is stupid you just get laughed at.
Personally i would be happy to help or advise (if i knew) anyone who needed help, i will happily guide another driver back as they reverse or generally do anything possible to assist, after all arn’t we all in the same PROFFESION ■■
Personally I think the ting that will doom trucknet is the attitude of some of the posters.
Over the years I seen a decrease in the witty, helpful types, many who had years of experience and were willing to share it and those who seem to like their job or their truck and want to share it with other like mined people, they seem to have given up due to the increase in rude, unhelpful people who’s only role seems to slag off anybody who has a point of view different to theirs or who might be actually enjoying their job or who wants some advice.
I’d hate to be a new driver now if this is representative of what new drivers have to face when they start working as a truck driver.

^^ this. I am a new driver and when u are faced with some older and supposedly wiser drivers with attitudes like this face to face, forums are the next best place for advice. One day you’ll be faced with something your not sure of and instead of asking for help you’ll steam right in and ■■■■ it up??

I love his question about "sliding under a trailer " not that old school are you ? if you were you’d remember the days of the leaf springs , if you didnt slide under you’d missed the pin …
