They were from Bedford, but Truckerash will be able to tell you more about them than me
i remember when i was with one of dads mates down in aosta and we went down to some gravel pit near there it was very hot one of the lads on that firm backed his unit into the pit they stuck to planks of wood under the fifth wheel hey presto diving board a great time was had by all
I think MCL was Michael Cave Ltd, I’m not sure if this is what became of Planthaul, the reg is one number up from Planthaul’s F7 and the photo was taken at the same yard. It all went on before my time, honest.
robbie watson (now passed away) was a owner of planthaul.
When it finished Robbie along with alot of the work joined Essex International
and opened a office in rushden - northants to run the abnormal stuff.
A Essex - SCANIA 111 vvw 896s lhd - driver Fred Peperall was the fulltime
along with a truck subbed from McHAYES.
Later when Eseex finished Robbie continued to trade as Wessex Intnl.
am luvin this Planthaul-EPH-MCL Stuff
makes a nice change for me to ask someone for pics…
can you find that photo of red and black 140 (or was it a 141) tractor unit please mike t

Well before my time but as Malc hinted, I work with some of the blokes still now
They started out constructing new golf courses, changed into European Plant Haulage (around 72 I think) and onto Planthaul where they accumulated what must’ve been the premier fleet in the UK for abload work at that time - lots of Goldhofer and the “new” Broshuis trailers pulled by F89s and the like
Problems in later years saw it change to MCL, keeping some tackle and many of the Planthaul drivers - a few years after that HMG sanctioned the export of a big cannon to Mr S.Hussein, then changed their mind, and goings on in Greece and heavy Special Branch involvement quickly sank MCL
I have access to the old photo album which I’ve been promising (trucker)ash he can borrow for ages - will try get 2 minutes to dig it out
p.s never knew about any scanias - nice to see the 140 in your photo mike t
I’m pretty sure that 3600 was originally one of john macfarlanes from Milton Keynes he had two consecutive numbers E81 and E82 Jan a Dutch guy drove one and I think mick hall drove the other
