Hiya,
Remember Jamiesons at Heywood, they did continental, I recall dropping
bits and bobs of groupage into them on the odd occasion they also were
in Southampton got a return load or two off them over the years they did
quite a bit of general haulage as well.

Hi Di Hi Harry, can you or matamoros remember where Jameson’s yard was in Heywood in the 70’s as I am struggling to remember exactly where they were back then.
I have feeling that they might of been at the old R.A.F. Heywood base near the Sea Route Ferries depot although this photo somehow reminds me of the old Oswald Inghams yard just off Green Lane.

Hiya,
Sorry Mushrooman I can’t remember were their yard was I have difficulty
remembering what I had for my breakfast and I made it myself, however
I do recall calling at their yard one morning and it was swarming with a
load of police seemingly the gates had been ripped off and a trailer full
of brandy stolen, crafty robbers had dropped an on-heat ■■■■■ over the
fence to keep the guard dog company, bet the dog got it’s arse kicked.

And here is another photo of a Transcontinental Freight trailer.

Kicked or licked.
You know Harry, I must of read hundreds of times that somebody had spewed out a cup of coffee while reading an amusing post but that has just actually happened to me when I read that.
I have been looking at the area on Google Earth as it was over twenty years ago since I was last in Heywood and I have just realised that Henry Nuttall’s yard was in Canal Street and for some reason I seem to think that Ossie Ingham took over the yard and moved the main gate so that it was easier to access it with a forty foot trailer from Green Lane. Could be wrong.
Two owner drivers from Heywood who did Middle East in the 80’s were Ian Mellor and Keith Headley although I do remember that their motors were in a much better condition at the time that I saw them.

Hi,
Great view of Mt. Bianco!
I now live in the mountains near Aosta, I often see an E. M. Rogers truck on the Autostrada.
I worked for R. B. Welch from Croydon doing furniture to Italy all the time, can remember a lady called Hilary that worked for Rogers, also Patrick were around at the time, had some nice trucks, had a friend that worked for Alberti & Santi called Dereck, unfortunately passed away.
They were great days for me, I was very young only 23 and didn’t look old enough to drive a car let alone a truck but can remember quite vividly some great experiences, Porte Maggorie in Rome, first time in Naples, strike at Calais when there were over 300 trucks waiting to catch the boat, The Monkey House and for the real oldies Paps at Aoasta, I ate there last year!
Love the photo’s of ACH they had Globetrotters in my day was always envious of them!
Definately some of the best days of my life!
We had a rival company I cant remember their name had yellow trucks I think, I remeber a driver called Derry, lovely man I tipped his load for him in Rome once, again sadly he has passed on!
Love all the photo’s!

Its the turning into Courmayeur, great little Pizza place there!

I went ski-ing there one week end, left my truck at the Esso Garage and gave the man a packet of ■■■■ to look after my truck!

nice to read all the chat lads. bringin back a few good memories for me.

Patricks was one of my favourites too! Keep the pictures coming please!
time to put a few more pics on then:
heres one for you Ian, Promotor F12 with a South African driver, if I remember correctly, his name was George.

Heres the Hercock roadtrain “Roman” in his F12

and how many of you knew Hercocks did a bit of heavy haulage?

this is how Hercocks ended up for those who didnt recognise the Derby and White name

Leggetts was another regular i used to see. Was amusing to see the Volvo F12’s and f89’s “waiting” for the SLACK ATKI’s to catch up!
dont know where this was taken, reckon it was somewhere in Swiss.
Anyone have a clue?

and now a few more to jog yer memories…
who remembers FERRY FRIGHTNING ?

Swains with a French reg 111 and Martintrux, night shot at Dover

Early David Croome F12 especially for JJ72. Croomy had a Mack, ill have to sort that 1 out and post it if anyones interested?

and finally one of my favorite outfits, PATRICKS. They always had top o the range kit. This F88 wagon and drag is a cracker!
now owned by Rogers who have also recently taken KENTVALE over as well.

so, am i putting too many photos on here? Do you guys want to see more?
Or should I be thinking about a book…[/b]

Great picture of Patrick!

Nice to see the photos of Alan Taylors trucks. I think he used to have a Mack also. I used to know Alan fairly well as we both did traction for GBE and he bought my Globetrotter from me ( HNH 350 Y ) when I bought a Pegasso Troner which was in GBE,s colours, any photos of my old Globetrotter ? ,I did see it about 7 years ago going around Rennes painted orange.

Kerbut: taken a while, but i dug out pic of HNH 350Y

and this wouldnt be your PigsArse Troner would it? H180 KFA.
shouldnt really post it here cuz this 80’s stuff

Hi all, i could be wrong but before Jameson’s moved onto the Heywood industrial estate i seem to remember i small’ish yard we would drop a trailer go just down the road and there was a piece of waste ground where you could park half a dozen tractor unit’s next to a pub. Could be totally wrong it was a few year’s ago. :sunglasses:

I think that could have been on Adelaide Street near the centre of Heywood.
A firm called Merricks had the yard just behind the Engineers pub, I think maybe Merricks took over the yard after Jamesons moved out.
I have it in my mind somewhere that there was a connection between the two firms and that may be it.

Yes i believe you are right about some connection between them and Adelaide street doe’s sort of ring a bell somewhere. :sunglasses:

I remember that Daf coming into Bob Murphy’s in Rochdale a time or two in the early eighties, never knew the nam e of the owner though.

Going off topic now but I did a google search on Jamesons and Merricks and an old post of yours came up, in it you said your first driving job in 1973 was for O’Dwyers, pale green motors?
In 1973 I was working for a building company in Rossendale and we had a job filling in a lodge next to the Rawtenstall by pass owned by the Rossendale Combining Company.
O’Dwyers were shifting muck from a site in Haslingden and my boss came to an arrangement to tip it in the lodge, only problem was the loadscwere coming in too fast for us to spread and soon there was a mountain of muck.
My boss had the great idea of hiring a big D8 dozer to spread the stuff which soon became well bogged down and took some digging out, I don’t think my boss ever got paid from O’Dwyers whose offices were just next to the M62 on Dr Fold Lane.
There is now an Aldi and other retail outlets on the site.

Buzzer:
Here is a lovely shot of one of Geoff Gilbert’s motors, always turned out smart and looking the part of a tidy run fleet, Buzzer.

I spoke to Geoff Gilbert on the CB once he seemed a real nice chap, he was driving Jon Gent’s Scania who had to fly home because his brother had passed away, I was just leaving the Customs at Cluses!

nelbo:
Anybody remember this man? One of Norfolks finest, sadly with us no more. RIP Derek Alfred Cooke

Cookie was a big friend of my brother, I remember him coming round to our house in Costessey to pick him up in a mark 1 Golf GTI.

I ran with him a few times, last time I saw him was in The Unthank Pub in Norwich, he was driving a taxi

The driver’s door on Keith Headley’s Daf is a proper homemade affair, what the hell is it? I thought the window moulding was from an LN2 Merc when I first saw it again in that photo, looks like a Volvo F series door handle too.

Edit- put the pic on so it can be viewed as you scroll through.

Nice motor cannot remember seeing it ,Belgrade routes i suspect ,no top mud flaps =snow chain fitting, and a fine in the uk MOT is it a 28000 tarted up or a 33.000 .P reg was the 33000 era.

the Irish liked their Berliets…

this pair had come down from Scotland - on route to Rungis.
Double manning in a semi-sleeper. Quality ay

Remember Transport Services from Southampton. Unusual to see um in Dover.
And check out the Giraud Leyland “ROAD-JOKE” in the background. Lot of English drivers on there.
Up by road…back by train !

Very distinctive livery. Not bad for a Merc :open_mouth:
