TRUCKIN IN THE 80's (International)

Truckerash, just found this thread, WOW!!! I can remember almost all the companys on there including Fridged Freight, I worked for Hercock Continental for a couple of months in the 70’s and tried to get on Hicksons of Coventry, did a few years with H W Dines of Bicester ,I believe they did Yugo with Big J’s for a while, Do you have and Richard Ford or Wares from B/Ham and how about the firm that did Richards and Wallington cranes, they ran Big J’s to Europe. Most of my work was for Bickenhill Transport Services from B/Ham Spain/Italy 1982 to 86, KEEP UM COMING. CLIFF jONES

Heres some pics from a mate of mine Dave Ellis, who was on for Caddies in the 80s & 90s.

Ive had a go at sharpening up the pics but with not much luck,
Harry can you work your magic on em

The First 2 are parked up waiting for the boat in Cherbourg,
along side a US Aircraft Carrier when the 50th D-Day celebrations were on

Next is one of Dave backing on the Le Havre boat

And these were taken in Portugal tipping meat at the roadside, you can see a small ridged in the background in one of the pics,
Dave said they would get the full 20 ton load into it

Replying to the last thread regarding Eurohaul. The boss
of Southern Transport and Shipping STS Ron Griffiths Used to be a traffic clerk
at Eurohaul Lovely man…

I used to see an STS wagon frequently in the Limoges area. Someone said
the driver was English and lived there. Never did make contact, I think, like me,
he was nearing retirement (around 5 years ago), anyone know him?

Not much better but you’re welcome.

Thanks for trying Harry

RE the STS driver who is living in the Limoges area.Yes I know him well Ginger Aynsley.Worked with on STS A nd J Transport to name five.He was made redundant a year or two ago and is now I believe breeding horses. He,s having problems getting them to stand still while he fetches the steps!

   Thanks Charlie, is he still living round here then? May bump
into one another one day who knows. Less likely now both retired though, but
you never know we were always mobile when meeting while working. He
wouldn’t have realised I was English though, driving a French motor.

Yes David as far as I know Ginger is still around.I kept in touch for a while but lost his phone no.If you run across him give him my best. He must be about 67 now. Just a little younger than me.Mind you they made them tough in the old days.

was the crane haulier R K CRISP? Ive a couple of pics of that company if its the one you are thinking…

heres a few Ware Transport and Richard Ford pics;

and my favorite; "MISS PIGGY"

then when he got his 142…she was called “Miss Piggy” too.

hope you enjoy these Cliff and everyone else

The lorry and trailer was first drien by Keith James , then it pass to my mate Gordon Mountfield, ‘Man Bearly Alive’ the truck had the nickname, ‘The Horse and Cart’ and i believe it was booked on the Enterprize the night it went down but the driver missed the boat.
Next one was driven Arthur…?
The Beauvais truck was Tony Berrils
The left ■■■■■■ a cancelled Turkish order was driven by ‘Smakee’, Richard Ford had one also.
Last but not least ‘Miss Piggy’ was driven by Ivor Glassbarrow on Swiss, who sadley died a number of years ago, I drove the 142 acouple of times while riding shotgun with Ivor.
H W Dines were from Merton near Bicester, Green truck with old fashioned style lettering, I do have a couple of photo’s, but not sure how to post them.
Great photo’s keep it up, Cliff.

Paul Henry and John Upton - used to work with them at Transflash, they were on for Henry Longs (taken over by A-One early 90s) subbing for Transflash

both great blokes, did alternate weeks to Barca and filled in with a Lesquin or other short trip the other week - there’s a photo of the last motor I remember John having here:

Truckerash, if you drove for Rogers you must remember, Hillary, what happened to her and squeeky off Werefords. The Richard Ford photos brought back memories do you have any of one of there trucks, with Bickenhill Transport Services on the door and headboard a 2800 DAF, there was also a Merc in Wares colours with the same name driven by Jack Russell. Genral Express Services is another firm that comes to mind, can’t remember the names but I knew a couple of their drivers too.
Winlan Bay (spelling) George Thomas and a Scot called Jimmy.
Voltainer from Dagenham I think, ran Marathons to Barcelona. George was one, the other was Jimmy Martin?

Keep them coming.

Chambers and cook,… when I was a young 13 year old I used to spend easter and summer holidays going as a drivers mate. I can’t seem to find any pics with the DAF’s in the lovely lime green and blue, but I have a few here of the “spin off” company they had - running to spain - Transporte Internationale Ltd

I’ll have to look further for some of the DAF photo’s

Lets see if I can actually upload these photos then…
