That last snap of the two Ralph D’s was taken at the bar outside Murcia & near to Castello Blanco ?

Heres a rig I drove on the Swiss/Portugal run taken in Spain.

that be the customs in muttenz steve, notice one of billy jackson’s 111s in the background, but don’t know b.marshall - hully gully registration so maybe wheelnut will know them

Just noticed this post, don’t know B Marshalls but hully gully reg wasn’t unusual as Thompsons of Beverley were very proactive at getting trucks into the market. It was a real shame when they lost that franchise but Tillotson took it off them as the Beverley premises became too small, but they did sell a lot of trucks.

there was a paper cutting in the freight terminal at belfast with a photo of this truck it was clocked at 103mph on the motor way outside of Belfast with 20tons of beef

To resurrect this thread to where it belongs i thought i,d put on this photo i took in La Junquera in about 1977

Taken at Ancona Sept. 1984 enroute to Salonika. The F12 alongside EHJ belonged to Othello Transport.

I’d well believe it…I never saw a man alive keep up with Campbell Bodels(RIP) when he was in a hurry…90MPH was a regular speed for the 141. The only guy I saw who could give him a run for his money was Dave Lynch(The Bionic Man) who refitted the rear axle of his F89 with 13.00 X R20 recaps to bring the gearing up to achieve the all important 90MPH. Himself and Campbell used to run down Watling street from Holyhead to London and beat everyone to the market by a good hour or more …to sit in the cab with either one of them was a white knuckled roller coaster ride over the mountains of Wales!

Not sure about that flysheet. When this picture was taken, Dave Dervish owned the F12, which at the time was driven by a chap named Brian Martin, and a Transcon (french spec?) that was driven by a Turkish chap. Cannot remember his name, but he was a good man.

As I recall, Brian & the F12 were ditched, and another Transcon was purchased. This could be were your narcotics chap comes in?

I remember them having 2 Transcons & also remember a Turkish guy driving 1 the other Bob drove usually with his Swedish bird as second man or woman if we’re being PC. They used to look smart those 2 Fords did. Not seen Bob for a couple of years now I hope he’s doing OK.

think this one belonged to PLANE TRUCKING

Sorry to drag up an old thread. I’m new on here and I was trawling through the threads and noticed this Scania (above). This Scania belonged to my uncle Terry. He lived near Bradford and was an owner driver. He bought the Scania and secured a long contract with Air France Cargo running out of Heathrow Airport mainly to Calais. He had the Scania all painted up in the livery and he had a great time.

About the Scania…

It was a 112m. The green lights on the top of the side deflectors were actually off a jumbo jet. He had a chain running down the middle of the cab from the windscreen to above the bunk which when pulled would sound a pair of the loudest air horns I’ve ever heard.
The trailer he pulled at the time was the biggest trailer on the road. Air France had bought the biggest capacity trailers and had them all fitted out with electric roller floors. Drop a pallet on the end - press a button - the rollers would take the pallet down the trailer, lots of amusement for an 8 year old I can tell ya.

Sadly Terry had an accident in the Scania and wrote it off, not far from De-Gualle airport. He survived but the poor old Scania was smashed beyond belief. He was trading it in the next month for a brand new Daf 3300 Spacecab which had been painted ready - Terry never drove a truck again.

Anyone remember him? Big fella looked like Kenny Rogers. If anyone has anymore pictures of the Scania I would love to see them.

Cheers

Sorry to drag up an old thread. Cheers

Hi Lee; And welcome to Trucknet! No problem “dragging up an old thread”. That’s what it’s all about, especially when someone like yourself comes on and adds more info to a picture… that’s exactly what we like and what we all want.
Well, you’ve blown my theory out the water. I used to see the truck regularly and always presumed it belonged to Plane Trucking as their other trucks were painted just like the Scania. Oh well, you learn something everyday. :unamused:

Hope you enjoy the rest of Trucknet, and don’t be afraid to add your own comments, no matter how old the thread is. Cheers Ash.

hi leej

welcome to the forum mate.

hi there,i remember your uncle terry,i worked with him at UFO before he started that air france job with steve cooke(plane trucking)i think i remember that accident was something to do with the vin rouge at the restaurant at le bourget.

in the late 70’s i once did a change over in with terry in poole docks with a special trailer that loaded with cylinders of gas from the ICI,the gas smelled of fish, they could smell it in the docks and shut the whole place down.

mushroomman:
Terry Smith gave me some of his old photos the last time that I saw him and he asked me if I could put a couple of them on here and hopefully somebody might recognise some of the people or the trucks in them.
This Volvo Globetrotter that Terry drove belonged to Peter Winterscheid from West Germany who I think got breathalised after coming off the Sally Line boat in Ramsgate and lost his licence. Peters C.B. call sign was Papa Whiskey and Terry did say that Peter was a great bloke to work for when he was sober. I remember that Terry worked for him for quite a while doing Manchester to Swiss every week but does anybody remember anything about this red D.A.F. belonging to B. Marshall or where this photo was taken ?.

Regards Steve.

The Blue Volvo with the yellow lower grille in the background looks like Nord Transports of Basel, Reg No BS4020. Driven by Ian ‘Cornish’ Gilbert from RH Stevens of Macclesfield. Not sure what the tie-in between Stevens and Nord was. Does anybody know where Cornish is now?
