Terry Smith gave me some of his old photos the last time that I saw him and he asked me if I could put a couple of them on here and hopefully somebody might recognise some of the people or the trucks in them.
This Volvo Globetrotter that Terry drove belonged to Peter Winterscheid from West Germany who I think got breathalised after coming off the Sally Line boat in Ramsgate and lost his licence. Peters C.B. call sign was Papa Whiskey and Terry did say that Peter was a great bloke to work for when he was sober. I remember that Terry worked for him for quite a while doing Manchester to Swiss every week but does anybody remember anything about this red D.A.F. belonging to B. Marshall or where this photo was taken ?.
Regards Steve.
that be the customs in muttenz steve, notice one of billy jackson’s 111s in the background, but don’t know b.marshall - hully gully registration so maybe wheelnut will know them
The big guy in blue ,I think that’s Peter ? an old drinking partner of mine .Peter was a gent .
mat transport never seem to be on here any one got any photos of the dafs volvos scanias mercs .
Remember Alex on MAT . It was Xmas in Italy & MAT was going to fly their drivers home .Alex said it would be tight but he would drive home (hero !) Anyway he was on schedule for the last Dunkirk boat when he took a wrong turn & got stuck in a sandpit . He spent Xmas day in the sandpit because the French were on holiday . LOL . I bet his mates never let him live that one down .

Hullo Harry,

Hi
My dad started doing Int with a company called Fridgelink with an old AEC then he got a ERF with what i would call a proper sleeper on it he also worked for Andrewa & Bond doing meat at of Irlande. Anyone out there with photos or info please
I did a bit for MAT way back working out of Martin Husk’s outside Dover. Had a manky old Merc, BJO 657Y.
Just found this site and think its great. Spent 20 years chugging around Europe until I found (what the wife called) a real job. Thought I
d add a couple of pics Ive just dug out of the loft. Can
t remember the date but the Ski Slope was a novelty as it had only just been completed.
Autoporto Aosta, a weekend pic hence the park is nearly empty.
good picture of the old Aosta customs, for those who have’nt been there recently there’s now a holiday inn express and restaurant where the old customs office and drivers restaurant and shop used to be with the customs now over the back of the park.
easy to drop into off the autostrada sud which now runs alongside but a bugger to work out for the first time how to get into the parking by the hotel and restaurant without ending up around the back of the customs when heading nord, its not signed up as you come through the peage.

I well remember the truckstop at Carisio in Italy , Brilliant food , Wine and Midges.Me too
. Was OK for a weekend
Got woken up one Sunday morning though @ 0800hrs after a Saturday night on the Frizzante
to move the trucks into formation parking so that an updated photo could be taken for the wall behind the bar to hang alongside the one that was from the 70’s/80’s. This was the result and a very similar photo did adourn the wall when i was frequenting the Truck park and restaurant
.
Remember a Cardiff International driver, unsurprisingly being none too impressed with this idea and taking him about 2 hrs to rise and move. Never got in the pic after that thoughAnyone know if its still there
, not been since '98 ish
and sticker
still closed monday’s

Funny what you read when you are flicking through forums!!
I was there the day you took that photo!!
i was driving for JSL (Janerite Services Ltd) out of Stoke on Trent at the time, i seem to remember that there was two JSL trucks in the photo and of course loads of others.
didn’t you take the photo from the bridge??
Also, i know we are going back a year or two but didn’t you drive a blue and white DAF?
some fantastic memories fromthat place, i must dig out some photos for you all
I noticed an Halpin tilt in one picture, I asume that was once Halpin Peirpoint from Erith, if I’m correct, does anyone know the names of the 2 brothers that drove there in the late 70’s, at least I think they were brothers, one drove a Seddon with a sleeper cab, brown and orange, that we called the Daktari Truck because of the paint job.
Not really 80s ,but was drivingfor Sadler International from Boroughbridge in 1990, remember seeing alot of the afformentioned firms over the water.Did alot of work for Dawlish International and Bannen and Ward, any pics. Remember tipping a load of wool bales in Swiss for B and W, hand ball , nice job in July.

The Scania 141 ROO 107W was bought 6 months old, I think it belonged to Tanker Bill?
It is Dutch built with carpets, seat belts and sprung cab. Ran on 1200 x 20`s most of the time.
Always good for double figure fuel consumption !It did Greece for Velos for a long time, as well as Galaxy Caravans from Preston to Spain.
Some of the Lucas International permit allocation went to Ashline Trucking of Chadwell st Mary, who remembers them?
Les Merton was driving when the picture was taken, always nice to wear out someone elses trailer when you got the chance.
Lady Amanda was his wife who sadly passed away last year.
Blimey dashman, I used to work for Lucas International and I remember Les Merton.
IIRC, Les lived in Connah’s Quay, but I didn’t know that Amanda had passed away.
In my early days with Lucas Int. Eric’s other driver Neville and I kinda took it in turns to drive Eric’s other Scania, a 111 that had Reg no. VEA 253 S
Les did mostly Spain in the 141, and I did mostly Italy cos neither of us liked the other country, so it worked out quite well!!
Here’s a pic of my son and I in front of VEA.
Here’s another pic of VEA carrying peaches from Cesena:
