Ken Ward from Braintree, Essex. Read about him a few times in Truck mags in 80s/90s, did European/ Middle East, is he still arond?
Hi,
Yes I know Kev (kipper) well, we went to the same school and worked together at 2 firms, I saw him on the A1 last week N/east carrying steel bar, he’s running a yellow 6 wheel foden tractor at the moment.
Hi Trev_H,
I wondered about the Foden, he was pulling into a yard in Didcot a few months ago & I was sure I saw his name on it, but I was dashing out to load a wagon for 1 of my night blokes & jabbering to head office on the cab phone, by the time I had loaded & got back to the yard he had gone. Bit of a ■■■■■■ as I was gona go & have a yarn with him about his old ERF.
Hi
Does anyone know of any Renault Tractor units that were run by Brain Haulage that are kicking about for Sale,
Either old CGM/ACT/ etc.
I am mainly looking for G290, but anything considered. Also is there any kicking about that have been restored?
Thanks
Geezer500
This old girl was still running in the 80s, drove her myself a few times. Mate of mine brought her & did her up, I thought she looked the donkeys-doo-dars. Unfortunately a couple of weeks after these pics. were taken she was burned to a crisp in a garage fire. Bloody shame cos there arent many Marathons surviving now, & certainly not looking like this. Just thought I would stick it on cos not many Marathons on here, they werent everyones cup of tea but believe me once you had her wound up it took some wagon to stay with her!
the driver ov this 141 wos mick cook because at the time i wos with G W Martin of brantree essex on pigs to italy anyone see mick latley all the best MICK WILD.

How about a theme night? Tonight is: SCANIA.
But dont worryfor all you others who “arnt that keen” on the MIGHTY Swede, ill do a different truck next time ay?
One of Gloucestershires finest fleets!
And another…
Geoff Gilberts imaculate fleet always attracted my cameras attention but im
not so sure that ill be taking any more pics, as he’s running plain white Renault Premiums now. Sorry Geoff.
Anyone remember the smart blue and white Bannon and Ward fleet from Dewsbury? Used to see them in Italy all the time.
And what about Barry Read’s fridges!
And finally a couple of classic 3 axle tractors plus 2 axle traliers. Typical 80’s 38 tons.
Thibk ill do Leyland Roadtrain theme next time

That was when Barry Read was pulling for Hull Ships Stores (HSS)
just look at all those extra lights and corner deflectors and badges and etc some of the old boys said it wasn’t like that in the old days,he might even have frilly curtains for goodness sake.

Marc, these pics of YHW564V are exactly the same ones that I got from that man in Gaydon that I spoke to near an oldtimer truck of R.T.Keedwell. Maybe you are the same person. On the photo of Chris Craddock you can see the sticker of the tractor. Anyone more photos■■?
IS IT FOR SALE

I always thought that the Read motors were a bit of a dogs dinner myself, that shocking treatment of a 141 proves my point
that would be a bit messy for myself but it did happen back then some people seem to be in denial of that when you hear the whinging about light bars/frilly curtains etc of the modern trucks,
the loyds and sparks scanias how all motors should be plane but very smart not overstated paint jobs

Superb pictures, especially the one of the Hercocks Daf !
Me being from leicester i can remember Hercocks very well situated behind leicester tigers rugby ground on the welford rd.
As a young lad i can just about remember Hercocks swapping there AEC Mandators for F86s and F88s. Then after the 86s an 88s they got 5 brand new F10s on a T plate then another 5 on a Vs an W reg plus numerous F7s. But the best thing about your priceless photo’s is i never new they had any Dafs, can’t ever remember seeing one.
I used to know quite a few and still do know a lot of there old drivers.
They sold the site to fina, then they were market bosworth haulage, darby white, houston transport (in conjunction with jimmy houston from doncaster), arrivehaul then finally Pickarbys.
Cheers…
Ps Do you have any pics of Pinnacle international, or W smith haulage of leicester
That AR GS Daf wagon and drag, is it the same one from the documentary, " spaghetti no junction " ?
