Just sticking a few on here to see if they ring any bells!

There,s a few photos of it on the Davies thread.

Hi mappo,

Those 385 Intercooler Volvo engines were amongst the best they ever made, pulled well and OK on juice with a great cab for the day if you got the Globetrotter.

mappo, In the 80’s I had an Xreg ‘flat top’ 330 F12 which knew it’s own way to Spain & back from which I used to look on longingly at you guys with the Globetrotters, at least my air con worked!!! By the time I bought a ‘Trotter’ it was a 400 which although very reliable never failed to disapoint on the hills, alway’s got there and got back, just never had much ‘snap’!!

Ross.

Tony Bradfield (my uncle) ran C789 BPO for many years running around Europe & Morocco.Hot To Trot 11 (2) .It replaced Hot To Trot, that burnt out in France. C789,was a good motor,i can confirm that as i drove it many times for him.It would walk all over the F12 400 J11 LLD that i drove for him.

c789bpo belonged to bournebridge int for a while, its pulling a bournebridge tilt in the photo.i was with bournebridge int owner bobby burns yesterday as hes in hospital at the moment recovering from a bad chest infection.it was mainly employed on italian groupage runs for ferry freighting.

The old gal obviously earned its keep for many years. I wonder when it was retired ?

Apologies if you,ve seen these before, ( on the Davies thread ) A couple of pics when i drove it.

Will…Please say hi to your uncle from me…Thanks…Tony

It took over three years to get this case into court :unamused: , The Nurnberg Trails only lasted for two. After spending 1000’s of police man hours and hundreds of thousands of taxpayers pounds the two directors took it on the chin. To this day nearly all the 100+ ex employees believe that they were made an example of and they never deserved to get what they got.
Well done The Ghostbusters :unamused: .
Enough said.

wrong Steve, not enough said, Like you i was put on the dole along with over 100 others for something we had nothing to do with, most of us got jobs elsewhere, but a few never recovered from the blow ,because they where to old, Jock mcdonald, Ken Singleton to name just 2.
Yet within months of getting out of nick both directors where operating again under other names.
The good thing about Dow Freight is after 25 years we still have a reunion every year for the ex drivers.

Tony, thanks for posting those pic’s as it’s made me want more than ever to own one!!! So if you or anyone else know of (preferably a round headlight) F12 Gobstopper sitting in the corner of anyones yard that might be for sale I could be very interested in buying it. I would be interested in any condition from ‘straight from work’, to one needing a needing a full restoration and either left or right hand drive would be of equal interest.

My interest is purely nostalgic and if I can restore one to a good enough standard I would love to take it on the show circuit.

Ross.

I dont no if must place this pictures on this thread but i do it. Let me no if it is rong.

When i was a littel boy i remember this company out my town.

M. v.d. Wal & Zn., Groningen.

Another photo from the past.
Do any of you remember this guy who used to deliver the new trailers, from one of the factories in Holland
I am sure he ran foul of some Dutch regulations, because they classed his truck as a motorhome and some obscene amount of road tax was required to be paid.

… Well I think this is a danish number plate. Does anybody knows more? I only know this truck from a very old copy in the german “Fernfahrer” Magazin.

Regards

Franz

i was about to jump in with both feet to MM’s post, glad I didn’t as I was presuming that he thought RD and his brother had been unfairly treated which is untrue - yes the drivers and staff who lost their jobs, but not them

do the crime, do the time - although, as still exists all these years later, you could understand them being loathe to tax trucks 365 days per year when they spent maybe 40 here, but that was not the crux of the scam as everyone thought at the time

It is a Danish plate, and Mr.Trucker was a larger than life character that used to do the Truck Show circuit around Europe.I remember there was an article or two about him in Trucking magazine back in the 80’s.
I think he went on to drive the Bandag show truck.

How many trucks did Dowman sell with sand under the carpets? Although I agree with the other posters, it was them that got caught, and do the crime, do the time fits, but how many other hauliers at the time were booking on ferries with one number and coming off with different plates at the other end? Still it kept the paperwork tidy, the carnet & permits matched the log books

Yes i know its a bit later than the 80s, but there is not really a category for this (maybe I should have started 1), but I just found these in my box & thought someone might appreciate the brushwork!!!

Does ayone know/remember Kevin Fullard from Bilston? He ran this ERF for 17 years doing mainly Italy/Spain I believe, is he still around?
