TRUCKIN IN THE 80's (International)

Gavin McArdle:
Hi
Steve, yes I did get the pm’s thanks. I am still working on the details.

Chris Turnbull’s last F16 was painted in a darkish yellow a dark green and a dark brown or purple.I thought it made the truck look depressing ‘Wagner-ish’ he didn’t :unamused: I can’t remember where I saw it (Ithink Worpletinger had been removed so it was probably after he sold it) it may have been on one of those pic’s for sale sites,(taken at Dover)I’ll try and work it out.
Gavin

Hi Gavin, I saw those photo’s of Chris’s Volvo F16 on trucks for sale and to be honest I didn’t think much of the colour scheme. This is a photo that I took when I met him going through Hungary with his Ford Transcontinental.
Do you remember those East German students who were always after a lift to Lake Balaton every year in the summer holidays
Regards Steve…

Mekon I’ve sent you a pm.
Chazzer

some other spanish regulars from the 80s if anyone remembers them; macness, goldfinch, graham broadley from southport way, williams (later eurokover or somesuch), baymex

Williams Family Transport became Eurokover (Selwyn’s son John ran it). John now working at Allelys - Eurokover closed up

Hi.Dieseldog6.! No I don’t recall Kevin or Alan but I’ve just put the phone down to Gerry Perry who drove for Dines and knows 'em both so maybe you know Gerry?? We tended to work on the same firm but he’s broke ranks at the moment and is on for MVT car transporters…I do remember De Costa…he was the same era as John Arnett.

John had a place in Curriers Close Coventry doing the Massey Ferguson tractors out of Banner Lane. He also had a warehouse in Rugby for the storage and distribution of the calor gas heaters from spain.

Mekon… Don, nice to see you on here, I used to drive for Dines of Bicester when I lived in Banbury, although we didn’t know each other, you may have known 2 friends of mine , Kevin and Alan Tagg who werer also on Dines, I also did a stint at Compton’s. I used to think that Scania of yours was the dogs do da’s.
John Arnett, now there’s a name from the past, I know I should know more about him, but I can’t recal what!!! age thing I guess.
Do you remember a bloke from Coventry with a 2800 DAF, De Costa Transport, yellow and Blue, used to do Spain back then?

MAT that’s right, I’d stick my neck out and say Birkart’s might have been one of the others? We worked for Gentransco/Danzas - anyone remember Wally Crowe from Preston, had burgundy coloured MANs on for them?

I remember he was due for a bollocking for something one Friday, and had to go around to their main office on United Road to see John Powell the MD, and waltzed in there with a big rip in his jeans arse and covered in muck from loading in the morning, proper old school haulier

Hi just remembered seeing this post and had to go back and find it. I remember Wally Crowe IIRC he had 2 trucks for a time and did come from Bamber Bridge a real nice bloke. Reguarding his ripped jeans and covered in muck yes but I bet he was still smileing with not one hair of his luxurious growth out of place   Does anyone know how he is?
Gavin
