I love reading through this thread and looking at the pics!!! I wish i was a 15-20yrs older and could of experienced european work then!!

It’s great to see this thread back onto page one where it belongs  as this is the thread that got me addicted to Trucknet.
There doesn’t appear to be a cure for it either so I just keep on having to have a dose of it every day and I feel a lot better  . I did notice last week that it had dropped down to page four so it’s only right that we get it bump started into gear again  .

Aosta customs Italy about 1986ish.

One of Bowkers somewhere in France heading towards Mont Blanc.

Dover docks taken from the top of The White Cliffs, I wonder how many drivers took the time to have a walk up here while they had a spare six hours waiting to clear and if you did can you remember going inside those old world war two gun emplacements  .

Regards Steve.

Hullo Pat,
Thanks very much mate, at least I got something right. Many of us used to use that route years ago, that large building was the actual Customs /Dogana and was manned a lot of the time by a little bloke who we nicknamed Fingers, as you approached his window a pair of fingers used to come out from the small apperture at the bottom of the window, where you slid your papers in, but the fingers were not seeking your papers but a 10000 lire note, then you did’nt need to use a permit, if you had one, ore not get it stamped if you did. The nearer building was a Bar, Offices for a couple of agents and an office for the Vet. If you did get a stamp on any paperwork it was officially stamped Bar Cenisio. That was the border. Oh happy days.
p.s. That was on the Italian side. The Customs / Douane on the French side was at Lanslebourg, that was another FF10.
Cheers Archie.

here,s spud murphy having another cup of tea somewhere in france
