They are left hand drive and I think from memory imported from Belgium and could well be G 88s

Ant
The G88’s front axle would have been set further forward than those in the pictures. Italian / Swiss operaters used Trilex wheels so maybe that type of spec.
the steps on the g88 was at the back of the cab, so these would be f88’s.

Thank you all for all the photos and messages. I have just retired and really do miss the life very much. Please dont think me “Sad” person but after 38 years driving and last 5 doing Ireland to North Africa to suddenly come to STOP takes a lot of understanding.

No one on here thinks your sad we all have diesel in our blood (well maybe not everyone on here) but most of us do so understand . But at least you can come on here to keep up. Just getting used to driving a computer instead of a truck There our lots of us on here only to happy to share your memories and pics with you.
Hi Harry, What’s all this? retirement? sad? never. You can always keep up on this site with bits of gossip and news. But do what I do when I’m in the UK, go out and do a bit of relief work. I retired officially 6 years ago and I was not happy with it. But now I laze around in either Portugal opr Brasil for the Winter and drive at home in the Summer, there’s always holiday relief jobs, and it’s good to keep your hand in. On another point is Emmet still with Franchini? I’ve not seen him for years, and the last time I saw Tony Khan he was as you said on Plane Trucking. Anyway best of luck in your retirement.
archie, i last saw emmett just after timmy simons funeral, some 3 yrs ago, he was driving for derek cooper from norwich, emmett told me he was just wasting a bit of time before he and his missus goes roaming with the camper van he bought, i hav’nt seen him since, perhaps someone on here could let you know what he is up to now.

I knew Tony when he did M/E.He might have made some good curries but the king of the curry makers was Jeff Ruggins. There was a gang of us on Volos docks one time waiting for the ferry to Tartous when Jeff decided it was curry time.It was so hot that Tony had a job to get it down him!.
Tony was a nice guy,but I haven’t seen him in over 25 years.

Thats Des. He used to have Ruth with him till they split up. The last time I saw him he had a blue Magnum on Norn Iron plates and had swapped Ruth for a larger modelIm not sure whether he is still driving because he was diagnosed diabetic.
I met him once at Aachen Nord long after we finished on Lloyds Freight, when he was driving the Magnum pulling a fridge for a German mob, and was amazed by the weight loss - several stones. I think it was Ruth he had with him then. Smallish, dark girl who was not exactly the quiet, shy retiring type was she?

Had a knack of urinating from the top step of the Magnum to save her getting out the cab during the night.

Its definately Ruth that Neil. I remember asking her to help me with my washing in Meer. Actually I wanted her to do my washing while Des and I got drunk. A lady should not know that kind of language
I only saw him once with the German fridge but knew he had worked for Frigoscandia many years before. He had another mate on Lloyds called Keith who had a black Scania iirc
One night in Meer we were having a drink in Des’s cab with Ruths replacement sat on the bunk. A german driver parked near us brought some beer and he was allowed in. As the night went on the German got a bit amorous and was last seen being launched from the Magnum cab.Ouch!
Hi, Really strange reading about Des, I started as an O/D the same week as Des and both pulling for Langdons/Taunton Meat. We drifted apart, I packed it in after two years and never saw Des for years, at that time he was about 18 stone. The i was delivering frozen chicken necks into the company EFFM in Verdon in Germany. There was a GB Magnum with a khule spedition Trailer in the park. IT was a much lighter Des and the infamous RUTH. sitting on the bunk talking, she was in Nickers and Bra drinking whiskey with beer bottles all over the cab. We parted two hours later as i had to reload cheese at Fallenbostal. Have’nt heard anything of Des since then.

Hope you dont mind me puting these photos on this thread, they are of my 88 loading in nivelle at a company called reddiracks.Around 1974 i was loading here,a few weeks later one of g parkes of harlow drivers shaun venibles stayed there the night to load next morning. It was a freezing night so he left his gas stove on,it blew out in the night gassing him.He was from east london,a great bloke,i expect a few people on here knew him.
Tragic story that boyzee, one of several mishaps with gas bottles over the years aye.
I found this pic of Cluses among my old photos, so i reckon it belongs on this thread.
Here,s a nice winter scene taken on route to Italy, cant remember exactly
where i took it, well it was a long time ago and i hav,nt been over the water
for about 12 years now. Anybody recognise it ?
great pics mappo must post rest of me dads up
Mappo, that is a place called Pre St Didier going up the Blanc on the Italian side with the Adler Stube bar in the picture, not a bad boozer.
The new road by-passes all that now.
It’s not the same as years gone by, takes a bit of the buzz out of the job.
good thread guys keep them coming
even though it was before my time the trucks look fantastic
shame i wasnt born 20 years earlier huh

Anyone remember “ROMAN” on Hercocks? He drove a F12 wagon and drag. never did know his real name.
Hi, The wagon and drag was the only one on Hercock UK fleet, it was brought over from there Swiss office when that folded late 70’s. It was obviously a left hand drive, re registered as OAY 805W - the driver of it was Angie De Palmer (Not sure of spelling) He was from Italian descent, hence the name ROMAN, unfortunately he has since passed away. This vehicle was finally transferred to Darby White for a while, running in there navy blue and white colours.
