truckfest 2012

This website is about truck driving and trucks… not about comparing looks or who you fantasise about sleeping with - there are other more Specialist websites that cater for that sort of thing :unamused:   - keep it on topic or say goodbye to this thread…

Out of interest, do “Live Promotions” visit this site? They can’t be happy with what’s been said if they do.

Not one for bling, but I do like tribute wagons. What happened to R Gill who had the Legends of…series?

Do they charge truck drivers to show thier trucks there?

I go to military vehcile shows, and a few years back a few of the shows started charging people to take thier vehciles to the shows.
Without the vehciles, there is no show…

Yes they do charge. I think one of drivers paid about £40. I agree it’s a joke to charge but more fool those who pay.

I do the various Land-Rover shows and always get in free as an exhibitor - makes no sense to me to charge people to exhibit.

If this site is like the sites that we go to live promtions will have to pay for the damages to the ground so it would save money by putting track way down for the trucks to sit on( as in the photo) so come on live promtions get your act together.

A lot of it is to do with the scale of the event- Truckfest is massive both in those taking part and visitors- that means a lot more infrastructure and therefore expense, which the organisers have to pay out for. I have been the the Land Rover shows at Peterborough and they are tiny in comparison- and therefore the expense for TruckFest is massively higher. Live promotions do not run these shows ( and they do a lot of shows not just Trucks/Landrovers) purely to give those enthusiastic enough to attend a good time out of the goodness of their hearts, they are a business and if TruckFest or any other show did not give them a decent return on the money they outlayed in advance they would drop it like a stone.

Smaller shows do work and are cheaper to attend, but at the moment TruckFest Peterborough is the flagship drivers event of the year - and like anything at the top of its game it comes at a premium. There s a lot of criticism that some of the arena events are not geared to wards truck drivers- there is a simple and totally logical explaination for that - wether anyone likes it or not, TruckFest is subsidised by a huge amount, by non truck driving members of the public who pay at the gate, a lot of stuff is put on to draw them in. they are there to make the event attractive to those who may not have a great deal on interest in the industry but want to go "do something " with the family on a bank holiday and its an event on their doorstep.

Without those folks wanting to meet the Coronation Street/Eastenders ( other soap opera’s are available) “stars” or see the monster trucks etc - the event simply wouldnt be cost effective.

What TruckFest does achieve, is to bring those people with little interest in the industry into contact into what is perhaps the more acceptable side of transport (to them) with smart well maintained good looking trucks, and professional busines stands and may sway some away from their normal diet of our industry news, that being “Killer juggernauts” which they read about in the daily rags.

I by no means think TruckFest is perfect, far from it  but I also think some people ripping the concept to bits have very little idea of reality - or the cost of putting on an event of this scale.

I imagine the organisers must make a massive profit from it though. I appreciate that there is a lot of administration involved but from my own time working on the show circuit- County Shows for the English Cricket Board- it never ceased to amaze me that the organisers could charge an exhibitor several thousand pounds to be there, and then charge the general public a fortune to visit the exhibit.

At Paddock Wood, they hold events at the Hop Farm. Last Winter they held a “Christmas Fayre” and when I looked into it, what they wanted was to charge me £30 to take my family along for the day to do my Christmas shopping.

No wonder they’ve got loads of money and I haven’t.

I hope it includes a meal voucher.

I think you would be suprised at the profit margin- its not as high as you may think- and a bad turnout on the gate would probably make the difference between profit and loss on the event,

It does… cooked breakfasts, plus free evening live band ( I heard it was the Queen tribute band this year, but wasnt there so not sure) for those staying over with trucks , and firework display - so your £40 isnt simply to park the truck, the events are provided as part of that cost if you choose to attend them.

so for less than the cost of parking for two nights at Clacketts Lane- you can park up for two nights at TruckFest, get ■■■■■■ have a good laugh, see a band watch a firework display and get what I heard was a half decent breakfast –

If Clacketts Lane provided that every night some of you would be queuing up to park there

putting it that way is it so expensive after all ?

acksherly, it is 2 cooked breakfasts, one on sunday morning and another one on monday morning

the live entertainment was a band called Mercury, which was a Queen tribute band, they were very good too, unfortunately, i think Live Promotions made a bit of a faux pa here, this year was the 30th anniversary of Truckfest and wanted it to be a special event, so, they brought back all of last years special guests and live act for the sunday evening :unamused:

as for he weather, who cares, a good time was had by all those who were there, photographic evidence has been posted on various internet sites to back this up

all those who have knocked the prices, what did you expect the prices to be like? :unamused:

everyone else knew before hand that if you wanted to purchase food and drink from there, you had best take out a bank loan or get anally raped

next time, don’t moan about the prices of the food and drink, take your own, it is much cheaper

there have been photo’s posted on here regarding the state of the showground, these photo’s are very misleading, it was only small areas of the ground that were as bad as they are shown, most of the ground was perfectly acceptable for the time of the year, especially considering the amount of rain that fell in the weeks leading up to the event

and to all those who have posted on this, or other Truckfest threads, if you don’t like it and it is not your thing, why do you even bother to take the time to read and reply to the threads?

i mean, come on, it’s not like the thread title is trying to mislead you into thinking it is about something else now is it?

or are you really that stupid? :unamused:
