perhaps he’s a stobart spotter on his days off :open_mouth:

I don’t understand why you think the number should be so much higher? What is it about police officers that means they commit more crimes that other professions?
[/quote]

That was never said or implied. So were running with a ball-park figure of 150,000 officers in England, Scotland and Wales. Given that we are talking about ordinary humans with ordinary human weaknesses, less than 1500 bad eggs in that huge number is at best wildly optimistic. Police authorities will only ever release sanitized statistics that show themselves in a good light (the same goes, of course, for ALL government released statistics). I just think that you have to be a little more realistic. Also, avoid the temptation to extrapolate or rely on averages. They just dont translate into the real world.

The debate can go on endlessly, with the only possible conclusion being an “agree to disagree” impasse.

in fact, lets go one step further…name and number.
if you believe your conduct is appropriate, you won`t mind your bosses being able to identify you…will you

Why would I post my name and number on a public forum? Do you really think everyone is as stupid as yourself?

I was under the impression anyone could post on this forum irrespective of career? Is that ok with you?

The vast majority of ordinary citizens don’t commit crimes, why would the police be any different?

I would argue that disclosing a figure of 179 crimes committed does not show any police authority in a good light. It’s 179 crimes too many.

Constantly using the term “po-lice” just makes you look silly and childish.

How do you come to this conclusion btw?

Why don’t you post up your name and the name of your employer then?

Smarter than the average bear?
I don’t think so…boo boo

Ask a stupid question and you’ll get a stupid answer.

Being professional (note the correct spelling - one f and two s’s) has nothing to do with it.

You go 1st, you put in your application before me after all didn’t you…!?

Its just not adding up, is it? 150,000 people and just 179 instances of straying from the path of righteousness. Sorry, but thats not realistic in any rational persons reckoning. Most "citizens" never encounter criminality or get close to the spoils from such activity. However, police officers are at the business end most of the time, and are dealing with people who are only too keen and willing to "negotiate" a way out of their predicament. Im not saying its endemic - just that its by no means unheard of or isolated.
The temptation is placed in front of them far more frequently than the “ordinary” man or woman in the street.

Even if the figure was 1499 that’s still less than 1%. Not just anyone can join the police remember. Your background is heavily scrutinised. There are security and financial checks. You are also required to list any police involvement that close friends, associates and family members have had.

There’s temptation in all careers? Shop workers could be tempted to steal money or items from the shop. Health professionals could be tempted to steal medicines/drugs? A truck/van driver could be tempted to steal items they’re delivering? Accountants could be tempted to steal from their clients?

I’d argue that ordinary citizens are just as likely to encounter criminality. Whether that’s via family members or from the housing estate they live on? There are 9.2 million citizens in the UK with a criminal record. Police officers have a duty to themselves to ensure that they are very careful about who they socialise with.

Within the police service, it was endemic during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. It’s very different these days.
