RobRob:
I was also on the A17 this morning Boston - Newark. Fog was [zb] horrendous. CC set at 37, nice and steady. Honestly couldn’t see 20 yards in front. Hit a bit of dual carriageway and 4, yes 4 artics go stonking past me on the limiter!! Every one of them got a coffee bean hand shake!
[zb**] lunacy! What if a car had broken down ahead?** Drives me mad!
Why would you set Cruise Control in such horrendous conditions where you cant see 20 yards in front
And what makes 37 cc set at, for 20 yards vision a correct figure

Just a heads-up Couple of months ago Nell posted a thread about a driver on the A1 seemingly trying to provoke HGV drivers or cause an incident. Pretty sure I came across the same driver last night. Same area, he turned off at Wetherby services junction. Same tactics, overtakes an HGV then slows down until the HGV goes to overtake then speeds up to match the HGVs speed so the HGV drops back top pull in behind him, this is repeated until there’s another car passing the HGV when the car suddenly slows down, trying to leave the HGV with nowhere to go. Think the brake lights may be disabled as they certainly didn’t show. Same vehicle, well I’m pretty sure its the same one, faded red, Peugeot 104, reg first 2 digits N5 possibly 36 can’t remember the last 3
I can think of dozens of times a month some clown does this, and on more than one occassion a red car, a Nissan Micra seems the favourite type of car for this for some reason. A coincidence I think mate, and unrelated IMHO.

nah same driver both times (very deliberate behaviour goes on for a few miles) and I’m not the only driver who’s seen the same ■■■■ trying to pull the same stunt.

Happens all the time with me…usually mum and dad letting the little kiddies have a look at the name on the front of the wagon.

nothing more dangerous than a driver who over compensates for the conditions.
So true, although in fog it shouldn’t be so much of a problem, you should be driving at a speed that will allow you to stop (to avoid crashing into anyone else) in a safe manner should the need arise
However somebody travelling at little more than walking pace because they’re scared should really be parked up somewhere waiting for conditions to improve, but not everyone feels comfortable at the same speed, not everybody has the same reaction times, so what constitutes a safe speed could be argued until Doomsday and probably will
bubsy06:
10mph on a motorway is dangerous
clearly not
Exactly
Speed is not the problem, inappropriate speed is, and if you cannot see further than your stopping distance your speed is inappropriate for the prevailling conditions, whether that’s 10mph or 110mph it makes no difference, except the bang will be a lot louder

yep, faster you go the more it hurts when you hit something
bigvern1:
Phil. You stated that going faster would have stopped this from happening. quote… “if they didn’t have speed limiters, they would pull out a couple of lorry lengths before they reach the vehicle in front, and overtake at a decent speed.”
You are a clueless [zb] fool. Has anyone ACTUALLY seen you driving. Or is it one of your many, many lies?
I Choose to drive vans. I’ve done more than my share of the big stuff. HA HA.
That’s good coming from someone who isn’t, and never has been, in possession of a truck licence - Class 1 or 2.
And then there’s your van driving that you choose to do. Wasn’t it you who took a van out on the road and the frigin’ wheels fell off? Oh dear, you must have forgotten to do your checks that morning.
Regarding your supposed “intellect”. Well if your trolling on here is anything to go by, you ain’t impressing anyone, “Big” Vern.
You and that Smashed Crab faced bloke should get a room together.
simple answer is dont drive to close and when its foggy dont be driving close and on the limit simples…
i was more shocked at a HATO officer on the m4 nr swindon with just side lite and no foggs on despite it been under100m visible
newmercman:
Limeyphil is actually making sense, pre limiter you never got lines of lorries following each other with a rizla paper between them, if you got more than a couple of lorry lengths from the vehicle in front you put your foot down and went around, it also meant that as drivers were in control of their maximum speed, they actually thought about and did the speed that was safe rather than just staying flat out all day as almost everyone seems to do with a limited lorry, the result of which is plain to see
I can see the point you are trying to make but it’s really up to the people who earn a living doing this day in and day out to drive according to the conditions. Unfortunately there’s way too many monkeys driving trucks but never mind that’s what you get for peanuts. The technology that will appear on trucks in a few years time will practically drive the ■■■■■■■ truck for these chimps and the rest of us will find the job just that little bit less satisfying.
