Truck parking prices?!

Hi Rob…no its a white MAN with a blue euroliner…if you see me parked up, you may come over…knock quietly and say Dobre Den if you so wish. ( good day ) for those wondering

They put you as far away as possible from the entrance, an explanation, (and arguably by some a justification ) as to why the park reeks of stale ■■■■.

Let’s be honest, it’s only really the overweight unfit drivers that will complain about this, a good walk never did anybody any harm (unless you get run over walking through the coach park on the way to the main building!).
By comparison, the walk to the building from the truck park in any UK MSA is nothing compared to some of the new truck parking being built on French MSA’s. They’ve recognised the lack of parking problem and have been adding extra truck parking to many service areas, and given the size of the new areas some of them require the use of proper hiking gear to get to the main building

A classic example of greedy rip off Britain compared to other countries in the EU (for now  )

My understanding is that you don’t pay in French MSA’s because you’ve already paid to be on the motorway through the tolls, no idea about other countries though.

It’s true they have expanded many French service areas, but they also put toilet and washing areas,(although not always that hospitable) in the parking area for those who don’t want a long walk or don’t want to use the service facilities. And if you don’t want to use French services there are still plenty of Routiers just off the motorway.

Most of the French autoroutes are toll roads so it true you have paid, but even the service areas on the non toll routes are free to park, as are belgiums, although they do seem to a few popping up where there is limited free parking but there is a secure park where you have to pay. Germany if free although some Autohofs charge you will normally get that fee back if you buy a meal and the parking is normally a few Euros nothing like what uk MSA’s charge. in fact I can’t think of a country in Europe where you pay to park on motorway services area, unless it’s a secure site, regardless of the road changing method.

Although I personally haven’t an issue with business charging for trucks to park in thier land, but without going into a debate about market forces and business models etc, I do think the prices MSA’s are able to charge are far to high.

Even some of the smaller Aires (picnic type) have pretty good facilities, theres even some with the big toughs/sinks outside, i use them for washing clothes sometimes…great in the summer, not quite so winter though…

Maybe ive lost touch with UK parking costs but anything over £10 to park overnight seems excessive to me, its no wonder the laybys are chock full of poor English drivers! :grimacing: PL/LT/BG…

It was on the A422 at Tean and from memory the owners were asking the council to put up signs each end of the then new A50 bypass. To be fair although my experience was overdone food it wasnt all bad and i think it started in 1936 and was one of the oldest in the UK, shame its now gone… :frowning:

I’m sure Dozy is a Troll, but I have known drivers with the same attitude, it seems fitting that many seem to end up working for employers who have a similar attitude to their employees.

Can’t speak for dozy, but I see it differently. You only reap what you sow,.
If a firm looks upon you as a number, treats you like a kid with little or no respect, any driver with a backbone will reciprocate and treat them in the same way…with due contempt.

If they are a good firm who look after a driver, respect him, treat him as a pro, that driver is a more productive driver.
Many firms fail to see this,.

However, after saying that if the bad firms still get drivers taking it all and still coming back for more, however bad they are treated, then from that firm’s point of view…why should they do anything else but treat them like ■■■■. :bulb:

Who tf is ‘‘winging’’ exactly or maybe you mean whinging?..well I aint doing that either. I was merely addressing a point made, and giving my view on it based on my experience of the subject :bulb:
My ‘‘pair’’ is well intact thanks, and I aint starving, so don’t you go concerning yourself about problems that I do NOT have, but maybe concentrate on your own problems…start off with your obnoxiousness :bulb:
Cheers.

Right…who’s having the handbag with the brick in it… :grimacing:

Had to Google it but…

Obnoxiousness is a word.

Maybe that’s doable in Redhill but every area is different.
Where I live there are an abundance of crap paying crap conditions firms, so not easy to find a good one (one of the reasons most of my driving has been done outbased for a firm in Essex and a couple of foreign firms)
Where I am now aint too bad, I’m left alone, although some of the other drivers there are not.
And to keep on thread… they pay parking, but aint too keen on paying for MSA s as I said before.

When i was driving i always had parking paid but only used it when needed but if the job cannot afford to pay for someone to park maybe the company should be looking at how they price the job they are doing because £120 each week is nothing.
