Truck driving and DVT's?

Had to go to the hosp sunday night after having really sore legs all weekend Drs recon i have DVT’s(Deep vein thrombosis) probably cause was my 15hr shift from Glasgow-Mac Duff and back in one day (10hr drive) been off since as foot still agony.Got to take jags and get a scan tomorow.
Has anyone else suffered this ? I know its a lot to do with my weight (on the larger side) gave me and the mrs a bit of a fright ,just was wondering if its common■■?

Were you driving a Merc?
My left leg is always sore after driving one of them all night.

Rob K suffered from this and so did I, in fact it was Rob K who sorted mine out for me.

Not only was he a trucking God, but a DVT specialist too? We miss his skills here.
Good luck, get well soon chap. :sunglasses:

Nearly killed my wife aged 31, she also had multiple pulmonary embolisms very lucky lady! She’s on warfarin for life, and in a very bad way! Wear flight socks or if you’ve been in hospital recently they should have given you a stocking instantly! It’s very common pal i don’t mean to frighten you but as our legs dangle all day, carp diet, most of us are round ( fat as ■■■■ ) is it any wonder! Greasy spoon anyone? :grimacing:

Cheers Guys made me feel a bit better, rather knively I just assumed it was a airplane thing ! Think lifestyle change is in order she was quiet upsett about it as was the family so can’t have that.
No hosp didn’t give me a stocking just a jag to thin blood and to go for a scan today !
Will see what that says .

Yes Fergi it’s a MERC Actros but to be fair it was my right leg !

Bring back Tilt trailers,no need for the gym membership.

Operation on left knee last October. Was in the Hospital for 4 days after… next day got out and that night was rushed back into the Hospital with a suspected DVT… had the Ultrasound scans and confirmed DVT…

Had to get Heparin injections for two weeks after and more scans…

When i had the Op the doc told me about swelling on my legs and what have you … and gave me the white stockings for my right leg… but i took the dvt on my left leg the one i got op on… doc said it was rare to get on Op leg…■■ I can tell you this much it if BLOODY sore thing… the calf muslce on the back of my leg was swollen x3…and was solid…was lucky that it didnt travel up to my lungs…

Had my other Op on my right leg 8 weeks ago now and thankfully i have had no complications…
only thing is by the time i get back to work at the end of Aug… will have been off work for a year… of that housebound for about 9 months…

best of luck with the injections…

I had to have heparin injections too, ultrasound, and dressings changed twice a day.

Not infections, they are ulcers

I think he FWD but reckons it looks like an infection. :unamused:

You need to be very careful, hope you get better soon, however if they brought back manual gearboxes it might help + you wouldn’t need 600hp to pull 44 ton.

Quite a few of our drivers wear those speacial socks as you know mick from our last convo we do mega mileage! Just a thought think they are quite expensive though like 10 quid a pair. What you doing up there going into macb’s? Hope it was for a full load and not 1 pallet :grimacing:

I always wear flight socks if I know I’m going to be doing a long stint between breaks. Multi drop isn’t a problem but trunking where I’m sitting 3hrs or more my legs get uncomfortable

i had a vein pop in my left leg last week got bruising from the knee down to the ankle think it may be a vercious vein, bruising starting to ease, the thing is tho im only 5 ft 11 and 11 stone, will keep you posted after ive been to see the doctor i do believe its driving related

My legs started aching a few weeks after we got rid of our Volvo FH manuals and replaced them with MAN autos, a couple of the other ,shall we say, portly drivers have also had the same thing.

My doc reckons its cellulitis and has prescribed the airplane type socks.

I seriously believe the lack of gear changes has caused this.

im currently on a week off with cellullitus…let me tell ya it hurts like hell… but its a different thing to dvt’s its an infection in your leg that gets under your skin and if not treated can be really really nasty (google the images for cellullitus)… so why he prescribed you with the socks is a bit of a weird one tbh

£10 a pair is nothing compared to your health. Get well soon Mick.
