I’m a truck driver currently using my phone and my view to the right is the wifes’ cleavage. Lovely view actually.

Use mine all the time, great for watching youtube vids when bored in a waiting room, also viewing this thread on it. Great for sending texts too.

I use my phone but have a special ringtone for the office which I mostly ignore. If it’s anyone else I pull over and talk.

Driver at our place only uses his mobile phone once a day from clocking on to clocking off, i suggested if he liked callin on the phone so much he should get a job in a call centre

I think the law is wrong in the way it is done

I would like to see any mobile communication use illegal unless in an emergency or stationary with the park/hand brake on

So how does a one man band run his business, pay someone just to answer the phone ?

The above just hit the nail on the head. Also how would a company get updates on where a driver is up to on his run

So can drivers not speak to passengers at all? I often chat to my mate via handsfree and it is the same as talking to him in the passenger seat. If I need more concentration of the road I will pause the conversation. Night trunking means much time staring at empty motorways and to be honest having a chat helps keep the mind occupied and the urge to sleep subdued!

I have lost count of the amount of times a quick chat with another driver has got me the last 5 miles to a delivery, it happened this morning, left Lincolnshire at 0300, at 0645 I was getting the old ‘nods’ mostly from being bored from driving for neigh on 4 hours, it came on so quickly I was alright when I went past Gordano on the M5, only had to get to Weston Super Mare, quick chat with my mate and bish bash bosh wide awake and pulling into Lidl at 0655 had a break, booked in and about to tip on chilled. The difference was amazing.

What happened before mobiles?

Besides that what is to stop the driver stopping to make calls that have been listed as missed calls ?

What comes first - safety or business?

Oh please … I believe you are also an advanced driver so you should know the difference …

I don’t believe that using a mobile phone whilst driving impares you in any way. It’s just another stealth tax.

When I’m driving in my car I have a perspex box I sit in so I can’t communicate with my wife, daughter or dogs. I also don’t listen to the radio in case in breaks my concentration. There is a device fitted so that if I don’t have both hands on the wheel, unless changing gear, that delivers a large electric shock. Driving is such a challenge that it involves my undivided attention.

In the real world I drive a big juggernaut death machine which has a bluetooth radiogram meaning I can talk to other people:eek: I also use a citizen band radio :astonished::eek:

Rog is quite correct and I am sure the law will be changed.Strange how people can’t see the dangers with something because it suits them.

I do - and wit 10 years experience of using (always) handsfree I don’t think there is much difference if at all. Certainly there is no need for the driver to turn their head towards the other person (how often do you see that) and as far as I am concerned my conversation is the same whoever I’m talking to and wherever they are!
