Albion. Rogs bum licker.
I too find that having a natter with someone can re-ignite my concentration and alertness when I’m flagging. We have automatics, cruise control, air conditioning - we used to have more to think about than we do now!
I get adequate sleep, so that is not the issue. But long drives can be hypnotic, and boring. Having a chat wakes me up. Jigging around to the radio can have a similar effect, but it is the interaction of a conversation (usually about nothing ) that works.
We drive trucks because we like to work alone and like our own company - that doesn’t mean that we are anti-social - just that we like to choose who we speak to

You’re right - I now see the error of my ways - I wasn’t thinking about the children!

that’s the ticket. Live your life in a cocoon.
For those that say its ok and safe - how do you know that? - have you been assessed doing it?
Until you know then its only a belief that you are safe and not knowing you are safe doing it
Line cabs with lead or just ban them altogether IMHO!
For Christ sake, give yourself a shake. What next no cd? No radio? No satnav?
Personally I get distracted by looking at mountains. Lets organise an earthquake to flatten the countryside because I can’t be trusted to drive through Glen Coe without gazing about in awe. Even better let us surround every road with a15 foot high wall so we can only look forwards. Better put a roof on it in case I decide to daydream and look for cloud shapes or aeroplanes. You are a grade A uniformed tool.
Hands free all day is the way

do you not care about our safety, man? Wild Reckless fool.
No not really. I was a tipper driver remember we kill people with out reckless speeding running bent and having 1 very minor accident in 16 years driving. It’s careless I know but I don’t gaffer tape my passengers mouth shut either.

that could also be my problem. Artic tippers. Hell drivers in bendy wagons.
Rog I can multitask and only use hands free where safe as long as the person assessing has got some actual driving experience and not some back seat driving instructor
Rog is interesting, might be a perfect example of…’ those who can, do, those who can’t, teach’.
You will get berated for that comment because you didn’t put the winking symbol at the end…that’s what happens when you post while on the phone

Too right
Sorry, but I dont and wont beleave that it is anymore dangerous to make a hands free call, than to talk to a passenger, or listen to the radio, or sing to yourself, whilst driving.
Driving is a multi task disciplin, comnicating(handsfree) is just another task, and any reasonbly capable person can easily manage it without anymore risk than deciding which way to turn the steering wheel.

I’ve done my own risk assessment and I consider it no worse than having a conversation with a passenger. I appreciate your comments, but surely the whole skill of driving is making those judgements 1000s of times every journey. On many of my various driving tests and assessments those testing me have usually engaged me in conversation. I would be interested to see research into the differences between the two.
Obviously,if I did not believe I was safe I would not do it. If road/traffic conditions dictate I will, of course, end the call or at least tell the other person I am too busy to talk.
Another thought crossed my mind how many productive hours are lost because drivers are stationary talking to their wives girlfriends mates and friends

How do you know that I’m not safe?
Your belief is that I’m not, and your belief means sod all.
I’ve not got a problem with people having an opinion but don’t try to force that opinion on everyone as being gospel.
I had a hands free chat on a ■■■ line once, well it wasn’t totally hands free if you know what I mean
