Truck driver killed on A1 as he changed tyre

Actually it’s called target fixation.

eagerbeaver:
It’s called not paying attention, ■■■■■■■ around with a CD, on your phone, reaching for your buttie’s, nodding off, adjusting satnav, wiping a fly crap off your dashboard etc…

All very plausible options.

But that was the what I was thinking, thanks “Contraflow”.

i used to work for allinsons and knew the driver who was killed, real happy go lucky chap ,and one who was always on the ball safety wise. was just told of his death by a mate, i know what happened and obviously cannot say on here as its down to an inquest to sort. as was said earlier,he was well off the caridgway and awaiting the tyre services. and NO,we never changed wheels . R.I.P COLIN.

You never know when it’s going to happen. :frowning:

RIP driver,i went past after it had happened going north ,I couldn’t see owt because they put a big barrier up to cover the scene, one thing I could see was the allinsons Volvo was parked nowhere near the carriageway the driver couldn’t have found a safer place to stop…

Donnyboy:
Don’t believe he was changing a tyre all a firm like Allinsons won’t have there drivers changing tyres at the roadside and never seen there trailers carrying spares the word going round here is he was fastening buckles up what had come loose quite why he was doing that there I don’t know but I believe a woman has been arrested and mobile phone being checked into

Driver could possibly have been checking the tyre size too tell the office on the phone

That’s what a lot of this thread seems to be people trying to convince themselves (without really knowing the facts) ‘I’d not be daft enough to do anything on the o/s on the hard shoulder type thing’.

It’s all nonsense it’s a dangerous environment and even if you can get HATOs to do a lane closure there’s still plenty to go wrong. We all know tricks like putting ratchet handles on the n/s in case they come loose but it’s not an option on every load and even with careful checking something can go wrong with the load that means you’ve got to get out and remedy it.

It’s just the sort of terrible accident that could happen to any one of us trying to convince yourself you’re too careful, too smart for it to happen is just pure self-delusion and denial.

Yep, I’ll admit to my first post where I said that I’d never work on the hard shoulder. In this case and for want of a better way to put it: Sometimes, ■■■■ just happens. :frowning:
