jonboy…dont let em grind ya down…those who havnt heard of hoggy have never been outside of europe (no offence meant) but they are one of the old school…and of course there are still many companies running to obscure places…its just that these jobs are few and far between,
i remember there was a rumour years ago 70s i think of a job offer running to china..everyone was trying to find out who was doing it...never did hear anymore..passed along the line too many times maybe... like the old soldiers in world war one...
weve got reinforcments were going to advance
…pass it on…when it reached the last man it read got 3and 4pence were going to a dance
…
…still makes me laugh… now watch people ask what 3 and 4 pence is…its the old money…jonboy knows
have a nice day

…but its rather strange you should mention that JB ( I was going to post something about this anyway):
On Saturday morning I dropped a trailer into, & pulled one out of Birkenhead Docks. On the way out i pulled in for a bacon buttie. Was chatting to this other customer at the buttie van who was not a driver, but told me that his previous next door neighbour used to drive for a Southern company going to Turkey, Russia, & CHINA!! Not unusual to be away 3 months.
Not allowed into China, park up at border, they would take trailer in, tip, reload (if there was one)& bring back to him.
One day in Russia the unit stopped. Apparently Scania chartered a helicopter to get to him, and found… (wait for it)
…a loose fuel filter. Seemingly it must have been out of warranty as he told me the company sacked him as he was supposed to be able to deal with minor mechanical ailments.
The guy told me all this in about 5 minutes. So i was quite suprised when I look in here JB (get off my initials ) & saw your (sceptical) mention of China.
Regards, Jonathan.
(Now doing a few days a week for P & O Ferrymasters, Fleetwood)
There have been several companys doing trips to China or the border region, MAT Transport were running to Pakistan in 1968 in day cab scanias.
RD did some chinese border work as did Croome and Kepstowe. I think Hogsped have been on a lot of these trips too
You say this firm’s at Beeston, that’s right on my doorstep.
dave hogg i think runs the hoggs head just off the a610 at awsworth. they run from i.m.rs yard at balloon wood which i think is near beeston. i
ve spoken to rob but not seen him yet. he loaded brum on monday for a local run (MILAN )
Funnily enough, Im off out for a pint with oggy, over the weekend
Might be off racing with them.

I used to work for Kepstowe. As you say, all three of these companies used to go as far as the border, but the goods were transhipped onto Chinese trucks, and although there were persistant rumours about British truckers who had driven to China, these were generally considered to be “drivers tales”.
I saw a truck in Dover one day which had UK-China-UK painted on the cab. Having just got back from Samara, which is two-thirds of the way to China, I was fascinated by this, and tried to chat to the driver about driving to China.
Unfortunately, he did not want to talk about it…

600km northeast of omsk today, 6 punctures over the last few days… its raining and the roads are just mud
ATS will have been busy then
I saw a bus in Derby with India on its tyres, but it was only going to Nottingham
Good to see British Drivers and firms can still get the mega distance runs. I used to read the tales of driving to the middle east in the 70’s, but the economics have changed, so I reckon those companies that make it pay must be offering a specialist service.
Be great if we can see some pictures of these trips on the site, visited Vince web-site a few times and the links to other drivers sites, great pics and interesting tales.

Few weeks ago Yves the driver of Globetruker.org, on his way back from Mongolia, stops to refuel near Novosibirsk and a UK convoy was there too.
They ad a chat with cup of tea, they share some info about the road and Yves left the parking.
You can see the photos of this trip (Europe-Mongolia-Vladivostok [near North Korea border]) on the website toprun.ch/truck or globetrucker.org
