Trip to IRKUTSK

as many people have said on here before nobody goes to russia and that anymore, i think your mate might be pulling your leg! come to think of it i’ve never even heard of that firm you mentioned :unamused:

jj72.
you have led a sheltered life if you have never seen the 3 axled pig.

There are companies still doing Russia but many use Eastern Bloc Drivers.

Hoggsped is doing low loader and heavy transport most of the time.

I have done work for them on and off for 15 years

Oh dear … the words dropped and bollock come to mind

hmmm, i think there’s a joint wind-up going on here jon/wheelnut - why would this bloke be going there if commie drivers can do it so much cheaper for a start?

jj72. if you check the first post i did say ive no reason to make it up. robs in a silver fh16 with bullbars/light protectors etc on, its an s-reg ex ralph davies motor. the company hoggsped run out of I.M.R transports yard in nottingham, balloon wood i think its near beeston. dave hogg has been in the game for years and used to do saudi and beyond. its not general haulage as such and i suppose he has a lot of experience and contacts. i dont know the economics of the job or why there doing it and not eastern europeans. do you have a lot of experience in this field? i`m sure some of the long haul boys would have heard of the firm. rgds jon

I can shed a little bit of light on this one i think!!!

But then again i’m not going to because it s more fun watching u lot squabble!

Personally i would say irkutsk is probably a bit far for any reputable company to be involved with! Probably a right load of cowboys if it’s true. What forwarder in there right mind would take on a load going down there these days■■? Only the seriously mentally challenged i feel.

Oh yeh and you owe me an indian a…!

Ta TA 4 Now

Hey JJ, if you hang around on this site long enough you might learn a bit about long distance trucking … apparently there are even some people who regularly go the other side of the German border and they’re not even employed by Billy Wets.

Perhaps if you ask around you might find a company willing to give a new bloke a chance, give you a couple of French jobs to start with …

Craig

you know what its like with the youth of today, you cant tell em nowt
i should imagine there’s hundreds if not thousands of firms you’ve never heard of jj
it don’t mean they don’t exist or never existed, just because you have’nt heard of them

This link has been posted before by Rikki so Im not breaking any trucknet rules

The cowboys you speak derogatary remarks about are here, An interesting read is some of STG’s projects… found stg.ltd.uk/

Im not saying that this particular trip is arranged by them but it is their type of business.

Sometimes there are no other ways to get a load somewhere except by road.
It’s not as difficult or dangerous as tipping toilet rolls at Tescos though.

Brain and engaging gear come to mind

devonboy what exactly is the point of your post? i mistakenly thought people would be interested in something a little further afield than normal. i dont know a massive amount about hoggsped no, i cant see any reason for them to be cowboys for doing the job though? whats your logic? please enlighten me if you have further information on the trip? rgds jon

ive just had a look at stg,s website them boys move some stuff to some exotic places id say to all the douting thomas,s loads that size cant go by train or even boat or ship all the way so how else is it gonna get there stg hogspeed have found a niche market in this old haulage game that earns them money and gets em to far flung places flair play to em .jon i hope your mates gettin a lot of photos so you can put somewhere on here so we can have a look

I personally can confirm that david Hoggs trucks do abnormal loads all over Europe having worked alongside them in the past {although I have no knowedge of this particular job) , and also that STG do as there slogan says Diificult Loads to Difficult Places having done work for them on a number of occassions

If this journey is underway I would say there is a good chance that it is organised by STG or one of the other specialist agencies

Specialist Heavy hauliers work all over the world… go to the middle east and see British registered trucks working… to the far east (especially Phillipines and Thailand where guys I used to work with are at present)… South America is a regular job especially Venuzuela… I even have some photo,s somewhere of British Heavy haulage Trucks moving mining equipment in Canada

Given all that, the eastern Bloc isn’t actually that far!!!

I think it would be nice if someone from this STG firm (whoever they are?) could come on these forums and tell us all about their work, pass on a few tips so that maybe other firms could have a go at that kind of work now that all the other general haulage stuff has gone to the Russians. Can’t be too difficult can it?

I doubt if anyone will though - you know what these big logistics firms are like, run by men in suits nowadays with no real interest in trucking

think it would be nice if someone from this STG firm (whoever they are?)

As it happens a staff member from STG is a long term member of these forums :exclamation: :exclamation:
However it is up to that member if he/she wishes to reveal themselves publically

I can Vouch for STG (Specialist transport group) as a bona fide compmay, as have been involved in a number of there projects over the years

Having done a little detective work I think I can say that this trip is NOT organised by STG as some one I know would have mentioned it by now!!!

thankyou rikki. i dont know who its organised by or through, i never made any mention of stg. all i know is that robs told me hes enroute to irkutsk with several other drivers to a gold mine with mining equipment. if some of the people on here dont believe me what can i say? i have neither the imagination or the inclination to make it up

msg from rob this morning, there still in st petersburg clearing customs. hoping to head off tommorow

Make sure he’s taking plenty of notes n photos Jonboy. Some of us are interested in these types of trips. If I had any heavy experience, I’de be camping on their doorstep, waiting for a job  .
