Tricky vehicle to reverse

Wonder how easy/hard it would be to master reversing this! (Although I doubt they ever would).

Im waiting for the usual ones to claim this will show the real drivers from the screwdrivers

I’ve seen a vid’ on youtube showing a bloke here in Oz reversing 3 trailers.

Seen this one, the trailers follow each other quite nicely in a straight line.

Think reversing round a corner might be an ambitious venture though.

This is someone backing a two trailer set up onto a bay… youtube.com/watch?v=Lb0IyiwE7Mk

The wagon in the picture is a tiny thing, didn’t crack 30mph. Wonder what engine was in it? Looks like an old Bedford.

It’s an ERF A series, probably Gardner powered, traditionally the showman’s favourite engine.

I used to reverse them around roundabouts with only one mirror, sorts the drivers from the screwdrivers.   sorry !

is that combination even legal in the uk?

Will be carnival/show people, they can run just about anything. Rules don’t apply to them for some reason!

:lol::lol:

One for the sheds thread I think

It looks like an ERF KV and it will have a 4 or 5 cyl Gardner. And yes they are legal licensed as Showmens heavy tractors different regulations to general haulage. Eddie.

I rekon it’s an “LV” !

Line of garden sheds

25m is the limit… But have been reliably told, by a showman, they don’t stick to it… But, only very skilled drivers can handle such a lorry and said he certainly wouldn’t go sticking a typical lorry driver behind the wheel.

Haddy I have just blew it up {the photo not the motor}!!! and you are right LV it is, you can make out the sheet rack on the roof. Eddie.

Cheers Eddie, could even be my old motor. I last saw it on the A1 pulling fairground gear many moons ago. Different colours though, they loved the old Gardners didn’t they !

Hiya…one here.,…that model ERF wouldn’t have power steering as standard…been a fairground lorry it may be fitted now.
so when it comes to drivers and screwdrivers. you’ll not get a screwdriver driving without power steering.
did that answer the question
John

We had a couple of those on Yardleys (not perfume  ) no power steer and one of them was a heavy barsteward. We woz drivers in those days… tin hat on now

There was a few of the showmen that came to Sanquhar used to get welding jobs etc. done at the haulage firm I worked for and I remember one had a 150 Gardner gen set one of the liners had packed up so he just pulled the piston and con rod out and she worked away as a 5cyl. That was the early 70s I spoke to his son about it 3yrs ago and he said oh it worked away fine up to about 3yrs previous to then. Eddie.
