Under Health and Safety regulations if you are called in early or on a day off you are on duty from the minute you set foot out your door so you need to be paid from then and incidentally your method of transport has to be legal and fit for purpose too and its the employers responsibility to check
I found this out when I did an IOSH course earlier this year

What’s IOSH??

I would love to turn up at my employers and for him to come out of the office to see if my car was roadworthy enough for me to get there!
If it wasn’t would he have to send me home or fix it for me free of charge??
Please let it be the latter cos the bearings in the front to wheels need changing soon.
I would love it if it came out of his back pocket!!

2Hrs 45 mins.

IOSH
Institute of Safety and Health
Don’t think he has to pay for repairs but if he knows of problem he should send someone to pick you up

Smiffys trucking:
Wouldn’t work for anyone that is more than 30 mins away

How long does it take you to travel to and from your home and depot.

Approx 7 - 8 minutes . I can leave my house and be at work with a coffee in my hand in less than 10 minutes. In 31 yrs of working i’ve never traveled more than 10-15 mins to work.

Around 45 miles each way, roughly an hour.

But I am away all week, sometimes more, so the travelling is not an issue.

587 miles, normally takes about 10/11 hrs. Luckily I only go each way about every three weeks

IOSH is only a school, and is not law.

45 min each way

Yes agree, for us nosey’s out there, please expand

5-10 mins depending on time of day / night , if I had a regular vehicle and could leave my kit in it ,I could probably walk it easily in 30 mins and do my waistline a bit of good as its up hill all the way

Looks like i must be mad to be looking or working that far from home. Simple really the local firms to me arn’t the greatest payers and dont do any tanker work so like always cant complain and will just plod on till domething closer turns up.

30min/20miles…
