bowser:
im told the cab needed very little work before the blue paint went on , i remember it arriving at the yard a few weeks ago and it didnt look like it needed anything really just a brush up … lovely motor
It is indeed a lovely motor - I owned it for 19 years, having bought it as a part-cannibalised machine that had been robbed to keep a sister lorry running.
It had, effectively, a brand new cab built early in 1991 - the only remaining part of the old structure is the framework around the radiator at the front, and the only remaining original panels are the roof and the ‘screen pan’, which is the thin, narrow panel round the top and the sides of the screens. All the other panels were made new from the original factory moulds, and the rest of the structure was new.
It was the handiwork of Kevin Battersby - if you’ve ever seen the ex-Bowker Borderer (which he rallies), that’s another example of his skill, and he has also helped with the cabs on some other well-known restored Atkis too.
It’s very nice to drive, pulls very well, and is brilliant on fuel.
