Trans pennine run 2012

I spent an hour or two at my usual place near Walsden where a lot of the lorries stop at the butty bar, great atmosphere full of nostalgia.

I think it was good turnout and probably there were more lorries than ever, certainly some ones I had not seen before and I have watched the Pennine Run since 1974.

Thanks for posting the pictures up, shows some of the trucks I missed, my little lad wouldn’t leave the park

When we got near home I stopped off at the car park of the Bottomleys Arms in Shelf Village, thanks to all who waved or sounded their horns, really made a 2 year olds day, his little arms were sore from all the waving

Hiya…thanks for posting the photo,s…it looks like i missed a good day out.i,ll try for next year

Thanks for posting them biggee they’re great, why are some of them sporting TIR plates though? Spoiling great lorries with a bit of old tin plate ffs.

T I R = Transports International Routiers, all trucks doing European work in those days ran with T I R plates on, so whats spoiling about it?? They add a finishing touch in my opinion, and I`m fairly sure there will be someone who will tell us all in proper detail exactly what T I R was all about!! …Ross or NMM come on!!!

I fail to see why a day cab Scammel in Manchester Liners livery would be sporting one though, I can see the Arthur Green 111 needing one but the M Wood of Batley or wherever F86 I doubt very much, maybe Ross or NMM can come on & tell Me all about running on a Carnet TIR but doubt they’ll bother :grimacing: :unamused: :unamused:

That FTF heavy is a cracker would’nt fancy the fuel bill though…

Off to find a TIR plate to put on My pick up now ttfn…

Harrisons of Dewsbury. I only got to drive one rarely (holiday cover etc.) it was a long time ago, I was only a lad then. Mk 3 MM
I did get a new Marshall at Fred Chappells, Batley. (5177 WY) I’ve got a photo of it but I’ve no idea how to transfer a photo to here. :unamused: I enjoyed that motor, a fine, comfortable bit of kit. 7.7 engine

I thought that technically the TIR plate should go on the front of the trailer as it is the trailer that is sealed and then any tractor unit could pull it

Just like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to those that posted pics of the event as I was out of the country at the time (holiday) so missed it, my better half is fed up of me saying ‘Drove one of those’ to about half of the ones shown. :sunglasses:

Yes spud1960, I always had just the trailer number mostly on a Carnet TIR & never had any bother it is after all really the load compartment that is under customs seal, I have heard old boys tell me of having the fifth wheel handle sealed if they have a TIR plate on the tractor, in Russia they used to like one on the tractor I recall. I think they look a bit too blue on some of these old classics, I am still waiting for Ross & NMM to come & help out, I cant see Ross having one on his F16 somehow!

the boys done well dont you think :sunglasses:

Tell you what, the boys done well wot painted it 21 years ago, eh? Not to mention that a cab rebuild completed over 21 years ago has survived spending most of the intervening years outside, all year round. I used to use it right through the winter.

Thanks for the pics

im told the cab needed very little work before the blue paint went on , i remember it arriving at the yard a few weeks ago and it didnt look like it needed anything really just a brush up … lovely motor
