Tramping...with reefer

Ok…shortly about to make my return into the tramping world…this time with reefers…which is something i have never done before…pulled many times on day work though.

Any tips gratefully received.

Have already been told that the company doesn’t like them run on continuous as it “uses too much diesel”, and i have had to sign a piece of paper to say that i won’t use a gas stove in the truck! Apparently one of their drivers set fire to his unit with a few years back…
I did enquire as to how i was supposed to cook without using a gas stove, and the reply was to either use one of those ovens that plugs in to the lighter socket, or cook outside the truck! Or maybe i’ll just use the gas stove and not burn the truck down?

Anyway…looks like i might be doing a run between Hereford, tip Sittingbourne, reload Dover. So, if anyone has a good free (or very cheap) parking place in or near Dover…i would appreciate a heads up!

I know that run tipping sainsburys then?
Folkestone £13 plenty to see

No idea to be honest…

Collecting from Sun Valley in Hereford…possibly reloading from Langdon’s in Dover…

Just frantically trying to put together some tramping kit…

use a oven but utilize the Anderson lead as a power supply into cab. get a length of cable to suit the power you need in cab and put anderson lead one end and a 3/4 plug adapter tother end with 3 pin sockets. alter kettle/oven and anything else that’s  24 volt to 3 pin plug and job done.

Over here in the land of the free and home of the stupid it’s illegal to have a gas stove in a truck. I cook a few meals at home freeze them and microwave them as I go

Thanks…i have already had a look in there…to be honest, i pretty much know what i need to take…i used to tramp 3 yrs ago…just a case of trying to find what i still have, or getting what i haven’t got!
But i was spoilt back then, had parking paid for, microwave in truck, so never really self catered!

Just a bit concerned about not being able to use the single ring burner i was about to buy, because an oven is a lot more expensive and i simply don;t have the cash yet.

I can’t believe that out of 30 or so drivers at the company, everyone plays by the book and doesn’t use a gas stove?

Personally I’d just use the gas cooker.

24 volt lecy oven £30/£35 quid, wire to anderson lead and run engine whilst cooking, no worries

What do i do if i haven’t got Anderson leads?

I know there aren’t any tail lift trailers…so would there be Anderson Leads?

I can neither confirm nor deny whether that is what i had planned to do!

I would like to think that at 43 yrs of age, being of reasonably sound body and mind, i could manage to prepare, cook and consume a meal without causing a massive conflagration in my cab!

Free delivery

How much am i looking at for a 907 gas cylinder?

Seen one for £74.99…must be cheaper than that?

Be selective where you park up for the night when you can.
If not possible, check your pin and fridge controls in the morning.

Go Outdoors is your place, they are expensive to start as you pay a deposit set by Camping Gaz but once you have it refills are £20. And once you no longer need the bottle you get the deposit back. It’s actually the cheapest way to do it, well short of having a massive Calor Gas bottle in the lorry like my Dad used to!
