I was thinking as you do driving at night. The company i work for which i wont name ( green uniforms) has a lot of drivers day night trampers… will there come a time when tramping will die off because most people i speak to will not or dont want to do it…day drivers go home night drivers go home whilst trampers stay away for 22 pound per night allowance now i understand staying away from home for 4-5 nights for 88-110 per week extra but i can get that extra per week just working a extra 2 hours per shift
FINALLY MY QUESTION DO YOU THINK TRAMPING WILL DIE OUT OR NOT ?
…could be problematic getting a trailer down to Italy, or from one of the Channel ports to scotland if it did.
It’s the law of supply and demand, if no one wants to do it, the rate will either go up or you get someone cheaper who will do it.
(someone’s confusing night’s out with tramping me thinks)
Tramping isnt just a job, its a lifestyle
thks for the reply my solution relay loads more efficent no down time trucks make money on the move not parked up,
Isn’t that what a pallet network is?
yes i agree with you.
The point im trying to ask is when the younger drivers come into the industry they do not want to do tramping.
They say its not for them and you get a proper toilet in prison maybe not in a layby its not for them and they do not have to do it.
I cant see there been any changes in the next 25yrs or more , is there a quicker more efficiant way of getting our stuff around ? , it used to be horse and cart and horse and carriage…6 days London to Scotland…now done in a day…if it goes your way.
Tramping is great if your doing distance work but crap if your only like a 100miles away from home.
I love it. day work bores me. if I could find a local tramping job I would be off.
if I could I would try to do Europe and be away weeks or months, but I only see my young son at weekends and I don’t want to alienate him with my absense

Im young and when i first started all i wanted to do was tramp, the only reason why im wanting out is because of the rules, they do my ■■■■■■■ head in, hate the fact that i must not drive for many than 10hours, i must not work more than 15hours, some days i feel more than up to working a long day, other days i feel to tired and only want to do say 12hours, but no the rules tell me what is safe and whats not!!!
Tramping love it i do 4 weeks out and about in europe and the uk then 5 days at home . mind you my kids have all grown up and the wifes got used to it but it must be hard on young lads new to the job
Does 4-5 nights out now constitute tramping ? used to be 4-5 weeks when I started !

what he said ?
i’ve always took it as someone that leaves point A on to point b then c and so on until they reach point a again be it 4 days or 4 weeks ■■?
i was always led to believe that the term tramping came from the nautical meaning which is…
a freight vessel that does not run regularly between fixed ports but takes a cargo wherever shippers desire
does not matter if i was away 5 nights, 14 nights or 21 nights i have spent the week or weeks taking cargo to wherever the shipper desires

so its not just me then
lol no mate,
but if fellow posters on here wish to deride me for packing in being away 3 weeks at a time to doing 5 away and 3 at home, please feel free disqualify me as a tramper, im sure i will get over it
