Trampers - Whats your choice of best truck to live in?

Its interesting how opinion is so divided - I guess its just down to personal taste and needs

Its also good to see how well Daf and Iveco have favoured when you would have thought that the more expensive marques would have cleaned up.

Fully agree about the clean truck though - Nothing worse than a dirty motor that needs sorting before taking it out for the week :frowning:

skids:
Probably the mega space merc I’m in now. It has got by far a lot more storage than anything I’ve had in the past (inc DAF XF SSC). The drive lets it down though. If I had to choose it would be a Volvo XL, best of both worlds, good living space and good drive.

I drive a Merc 2546 mega and love it, far better unit compared to my old XF 105 super, loads of room and storage, more refined drive, driver aids a plenty, pulls lower into the rev range before it changes down, the XF was far too quick to change down, feel far less tired now, Its a shame your not enjoying it as I am. Although I dont stay in it all week, but I do do 2 nights out.

having tramped in scania 4 and r series toplines, volvo globe xls, magnums, premiums, man roadhaus, tga xxls, merc long distance and megaspace and a stralis its hard to choose. im tramping in a xlx tga at the mo and thats got ample room and storage for me.ive got no experiance of the big dafs.if its clean and got a fridge im happy not to bothered about the badge on the front anymore
if it were my money i were spending my top 3 would be
man tgx xxl
renault magnum
merc megaspace

Well in terms of nights out I’m not sure anyone can beat me! I’ve been living full time in a Scania for nearly 4 years and I’ve not gone mad! What I want is a truck that is great to drive and good to live in and that’s the Scania. I’ve driven all makes and overnighted in most of them and from a driving point of view I’d take a Scania over anything any day. I’m talking well specced Scania now, retarder, comfy seat, proper auto etc. As for living in yes I’d say the DAF would beat the Scania, but from a driving point of view it doesn’t come close. I lived in a DAF for over a year at HSF, a good truck but it just doesn’t compare to the Scania when rolling.

I know their is a Scania bashing club on here and I myself didn’t like them much before I came to Virginia but now I don’t care if I never drive another truck again. All round I just think they are the best by far.

Well!! I’ve been tramping now for nearly 4years and only lived in 2types Volvo FH and Scania R!! I find faults in both when tramping! 1. Thin mattress in the Scania which is also required to construct!! Very annoying when your really tired!! The FH bed is too narrow for a big lad like me!! Then there is the space issue with the tight cab design in the roof space!! Ride is far better in the Scania!! Not a lot of rock and roll with the cab!!
The Volvo has better storage!! But the Scania is better on the Fuel!!

Topline Scania i’d prefer but the ones with the 2 bunks behind you and not the one above your head, loads of space then in the cupboards that are above your head then instead and my second choice would be a tgx man xxl

For me its a VOLVO FH XLX first best truck to drive MAN/MERC the cab slops about too much SCANIA good but for me im always looking down through the screen instead of ahead of me but thats cos im tall if i was short would be ok

Second cos im tall and thin space in the VOLVO suits me and mattress is good.
MAN too much cheap plastic and thin bunk
MERC cant fault to live in
SCANIA too big a hole to climb out of seat into cab and build a thin bed whats that about they lost it when front top bed went

Cant comment on DAF but wouldn’t touch a CF for nights out if i could help it.

If MAN & SCANIA do get together will be interesting to see what comes out may be scaina drive line with man cab refined abit by scania could be a nice truck

Dont see the beef with the DAF CF’s plenty of room in the new ones with the SSC on them, they look far more streamlined than the box shaped XF’s imo anyway.

For me it has to be at least a Travelodge, but I prefer a place with a decent restaurant attached.

You know the same places that the Reps/Company staff members etc etc stay in.

volvo f10 or fl10 low roofs double manned 1 in bunk other in passenger seat. night heater curtains enough room for a tele n a stove. what else do u need? drivers these days are just twisty as f  k.
