Yes, Morecambe Bay was chinese on chinese, and that was 15 years ago.
When I worked in the meat trade for a while the freezer lockers used to have these kind of giant wing nuts inside so if any did lock someone in from outside accidentally or as a stupid practical joke you could unscrew them and the whole lock and handle would detach so you could open the door.
Anyone else think it was a bit suspect with the driver that he bobtailed all the way from NI to Purfleet to pick up a trailer, is this commonplace as I would have thought you could get someone on the mainland to trunk it to Holyhead and send it across unaccompanied for a lot lower cost?

Not sure he did bobtail all the way from Ireland (not NI if he entered the UK via Holyhead?). Police/press have said that the unit came in via Holyhead, but I’ve not seen anything to say whether of not he had a trailer at that point.

There are handles on the inside of the doors, lol. Won’t work if they’re barred/locked on the outside, obviously. Or maybe they were only present on the shutter type doors? Not sure tbh, been a while since I drove a fridge. If they really wanted to, they could’ve grabbed 1 guy and used him as a battering ram to force their way out, though. Just saying. I find it hard to believe all 39 of them perished at the exact same time.
Not on barn doors there aren’t. Just look at the way barn doors are kept shut, no way of being able to make them openable from the inside.

Exactly, the driver or at least the unit shipped into Holyhead 4 days earlier, he or it could have been lifting trailers all over the UK mainland running out of Purfleet, one of us used to do it every week.
As much as I would like to believe the driver is Innocent there is just one thing that don’t make sense.
I go to a warehouse near there on a trunk and no the lay out.
I don’t understand how he has picked a load up and not opened the back doors at the port to check load?
He then drove over to the industrial estate to then open the doors?
Either way the way the media have smashed his detail over the place is crazy.

Ok, I thought I read that just the unit came across the night before but was probably reporting inaccuracy as I think they mixed up what the trailer and unit movements were.

Excellent advice on how a driver can get not only put themselves out of a job, and under suspicion for any missing cargo issues but also arrested on a murder charge.
The trailer here came in unaccompanied if the driver had left well alone (assuming he’s innocent and not in on it) until he’d got to the delivery point and let the staff there break the seal he most likely wouldn’t be in a police cell under arrest for murder.
My understanding is the drivers normally runs out of Purfleet and picked up the trailer from there. Maybe the freight forwarders he works for sorts out a trailer to NI or North Wales and one back to get him home.
It seems the media, uninformed about how haulage works as usual and desperate to have something to say, found out a few pieces of info about the registration of the unit and where it had come from and made up the rest.
As for the rest I’ll leave that to the police to investigate instead of adding to the speculation

The seal also protects the driver against allegations of loading illegals break the seal and then find illegals you will have a job proving you either didn’t put them in or were complicit in putting them in

Here we go professional keyboard warrior who knows it all. If you pick a trailer that’s been sealed and break that seal the load will get rejected. What about containers do all drivers open them before leaving the docks. They took the risk but as usual the driver pays the price.
The DVSA on their site, accept that drivers cannot always be present during loading. Reads, to my eyes, that the transporter needs to inform any driver about load security.
If a driver is informed a load has been adequately secured by a competent person, that seems good enough.

In the real world a trailer loaded and sealed, driven a few or many hours, shunted by tuggies around the docks, been on a boat trip, that hasn’t burst, isn’t going to come to much more harm going around the M25.
