I’ve pulled trailers from Rotterdam to Athens at 4.2m.For Richard Kempers.
Used to catch the Ancona-Patra ferry,Either back to Bari or Venice.
Even been thro’ le tunnel du chat at that height.

News to me, when I worked there in the late 90’s all the trailers were 4 metres.

You could be right, scotchbaz,I was there in '91-'92.
They could’ve changed the trailers by the time you were on there.

The bridge at Sées is 4.15m even tho’ it’s signed 4.0M.
Dave,retired French driver.

it is bypassed now, but I think you will find it was 4.15 and a whisker because I used to barrel under it with at least 2mm to spare when I was driving a Westermann truck at 4.15 :open_mouth:

One of our drivers was trying to do a delivery in the Essen area once and could not find a way in to the factory because of all the low bridges, anyway he saw a police car parked on the side of a road and went to ask them for a route into the factory. they told him there was a route where the bridge was high enough at 4 m high, he says Oh, but I am 4.15 m height… So the police man gets out a tape to check, the driver was right, 4.15m…That cost him a 120 DM fine, but they just told him he would have no problems getting under the 4 m bridge so sent him that way…the rest of us who had been to the place loads of times before used to go under the 3.8 m bridge with room to spare… I don’t know if times have changed things, but nearly all Westermann trucks used to run at 4.15m and never had any real problems

Height

For international journeys, a 4m height limit applies. Within the UK, however, there is no legal height limit, although any vehicle over 3m must display the height in the cab. The main constraint on height is the vehicle’s ability to negotiate under motorway bridges, so the practical maximum is usually 4.8 or 4.9m.

This is what one of the members on the site i use in germany
posted,

The above says roughly that a a Mega trailer from his firm was driveing when it got stopped (4.08m) FOR BEING TOO
high, after a long disscusion the complete vehicle had to go back to the yard(proberly not that far) and had the height adjusted, now the police would have come with them and
and then checked the adjustment although it does not say this
or they had to come back to the station and show the trailer, before it could continue its journey,Foreigners will proberly be forrbidden to carry on with the journey , and have to go to a workshop to adjust the height down to the limit allowed
But the order in which it happens would depend on the offical and how they deal with the situation,
