Trailer heights in europe

can anybody advise ?

cheers

when i worked for a trailer rental company it was 4 meters

It has been posted before ,unfortunatly the search
button refuses to workMOD,s ANY chance of finding the post,THE offical Height for international
transport unless you are doing wide load & STGO, is 4:00Meters, be warned, that fines are issued, transferring loads to another
vehicle is also carried out,(this means the costs rise);IF YOU GET CAUGHT with a over height trailer, the swiss love catching such vehicles, and they do this daily,

I thought it had been posted before but couldnt find it!

thanks fellas much appreciated

I stick to 4m ish east of France, but very often run 4.2 to Spain and France. No realm problem there. But there are alot of 4m marked bridges in NL, B and Germany especially, so unless you want a sunroof on your trailer I would be careful!

Regards

Paul

Hello , THE EU has laid down that
the offical height for a normal trailer is not to exceed
4.00m, why is it then we have the cowboys who insisit
on driveing around with ILLEGAL trailers, People once you have been caught and done ,your name &the firms
goes into the data bank which means like the VOSA they will stop and check you also if you hit a bridge the costs will
be recovered from the firm/owner, for all partys concerned only if doing specialist work and with the correct permits will you have no problems when stopped,
-from my post before,THE offical Height for international
transport unless you are doing wide load & STGO, is 4:00Meters,laid down by all partners of international transport,.,EU and beyond,

EU rules or GERMAN rules■■?
I think the car industry here in UK would have come across that one!
Our triple deck car transporters over here in UK run at 4.8m and I don’t think they are about to reduce them down to 4m.

If you notice on my previous post (chart) UK & France do not have a defined height.

sweden and finland allow 6m of height, also being part of the eu

i dont even think there is a maximum height in the UK

Ladies & Gentlemen, these are the laid down rules
From the EU and the other partners who are responsible
for the transport offices of there country,
and if you are a holder of the international CPC
you will have this in the books that you read to prepare for the exam,This is a laid down international agreement/law,
for INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT;;not for home traffuc as each countrys has its own rules for this,

The rules in each individual country are irrelevant if you are on an international journey, then the EU rule of 4.0 metres come in. As has been said we do not have a maximum height limit for domestic work, however if you on an international journey then it is just as illegal to be over 4.0m in the UK as it is in NL.

Its the same with 40t, except between countries with recirprocal agreements, such as UK, B, NL and DK, or between the Scandinavian countries, however I have been made to blow off excess weight when loading plastics granules in Sweden for Germany on the basis that I would have been illegal in Sweden, and we are talking 200kg.

so when i did uk/spain/uk in our 4.2 fridge i was illegal from the minute i left the yard to the minute i got home.

What a load of ■■■■■■■■.

4 m where you need 4 m - NL, B, D, Ch, etc. But lets not kid ourselves that you need to change the ways most of our European cousins and the way most are operating just because a few bureaucrats and countries want to run things a certain way.

You need 4m in some countries becuase of the bridge and tunnel heights - thus the law dictates. No other reason.

Run 4.1, 4.2 across France, Spain, Portugal you will have no problems. You don’t have to be a cowboy to make money, you just need to be living in the real world!

Ye Ha!

So that means because the northbound Blackwall Tunnel is 4m the UK limit is 4m?? Get your facts right, there’s a difference between International Law and logic, the movement of freight between European country’s if carried on fixed bodied vehicles, the body height of the vehicle (unless being carried under convoi exceptionell regulations) should be 4m.

I’ve been through France and Spain with a 4.2m trailer and anyone who was going into Coslada a few years ago will remember the two railway bridges that were 4.2m high, I knew what I was doing was wrong (legaly speaking) but equally I knew that the chance of getting caught was miniscule.

yes, fraid so. I know its not a problem doing France and Spain at 4.2m, but that wasn’t the question

I think you’ll find there is, we used to move loads between 17’ and 18’ 6" and anything over 16’6" had to be accopanied by a movement order, usally a telex from each police force that you were passing through. unless this has changed.

Well the question was what are the trailer heights in Europe. The plain and logical answer is it is 4m where 4m bridges and tunnels are the norm and outside those countries - as mentioned - you can run at varying heights - France, Spain, Portugal, many Nordic countries, etc.

Not sure it can be plainer than that.

You don’t need a PHD to decide not to go through the 4m Blackwall tunnel with anything more than a 4m trailer - but alas many have tried…

So that means because the northbound Blackwall Tunnel is 4m the UK limit is 4m?? Get your facts right,

There is a set height where anything BELOW that height is marked. Hence the 4m tunnel and various brigdes. In France its 4.5m, can’t recall what its in the UK (4.7m??) - something to do with EU law!! :astonished:
